FC: Great Depression Project Brian Blum
1: The Great Depression was caused by a massive selling of stocks over the course of just a few days. Once people saw that the Stock Market was crashing, they decided to remove their money from banks as well. As the banks didn't have enough money to cover all the withdrawals, many had to close.
2: The Great Depression lasted for 12 years. From 1929-1942.
During the Great Depression, life was very hard. Many people did not have jobs and had to survive on what they could earn doing odd-jobs, or the food they got from the government. Those who did have jobs were better off, but they could be laid-off at any time, plus pay was very low.
4: Everyone in America was affected by the Great Depression. Not only that, but the rest of the world felt its effects as well. Several bills passed during the Great Depression limited trade with other countries. Though that primarily hurt the US, it hurt other countries as well.
5: The Great Depression ended for several reasons. First, the actions of Theodore Roosevelt with the CCC helped tremendously. Also, WWII was a major contributor to the end of the Great Depression. It provided jobs in the military for many jobless workers and provided factory jobs for those who could not serve in the military.
