1: Father Marquette and Louis Joliet were the first explorers on record, who saw the river shore of the future site of Hannibal (1673). Louis Hennepin was the first explorer to actaully land on the site (1680). | History
2: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer | The Mark Twain Cave was discovered in the Winter of 1819-1820 by a man named Jack Sims. He was hunting and his dog had chased an animal into a small opening. The cave also appears in Mark Twain’s novel, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. "...the cave was but a labyrinth of crooked aisles that ran into each other and out again and led nowhere. It was said that one might wander days and nights together through its intricate tangle of rifts and chasms and never find the end of the cave."

4: Museum In Hannibal, Missouri there is a museum. This museum is a historic house, the house of Mark Twain. Mark Twain Boyhood Home was constructed about 1843 or 1844. In 1911, it was scheduled for demolition to make way for a larger building, but was saved.
