FC: The interlopers By : Saki Retold by: Jeremy Hooks period 1
Somewhere in on the eastern side of the Carpathians a man stood still. Watching and waiting for some noise, Some unexpected disturbance during the stormy night. He waited for some foul beast, a monstrosity of the night to come into the line of sight of his rifle.
The man was not hunting game that the average hunter hunts for. This man named Ulrich von Gradwitz hunted for human prey. This man is not a murderer. No he is not an evil man. He is just protecting his land. The land of Gradwitz.
Let us go into how Ulrich aquired these lands. He got the land from his grandfather. Whom won it in a famous law suit, giving him ownership from the illegal ownership of the former petty landowners.
The former owners never complied with the lawsuit, and due to the long history poaching affrays, and scandels had made their relations vilolent and bitter for three generations. This is where Ulrich comes in. He had inherited it from his father. He was now in control of the land, the feud, everything. He was on patrol. Waiting for this long blood feud to continue, but he planned on ending it that night. He had brought with him seven of his most loyal men to help him hunt | for their adversaries. But unknown to them their enemy, Georg Znaeym was looking for them. Georg Znaeym had brought men with him as well, but he left them at their camp to go look for Ulrich and his merry lot of men. The next event took him by suprise. He ended up walking right into Ulrich. Staring down the barrel of his gun, He pointed his gun at Ulrich. Ulrich had the opportunity to finally end the feud once and for all. Alas Ulrich had morals unlike his barbaric opponent.
So he let Georg have his last words. As he was speaking the roar of thunder muffled his last words and a bolt of lightning struck a tree. Before anyone understood the situation both Georg and Ulrich were trapped under a heavy tree branch. Ulrich and Georg stay pinned under the branch for hours. Each speaking of what they will do the other once their men finds them. Growing tired and thirsty Ulrich reaches for his wine flask. | Finally he unscrews the top and takes a swig of the fine vintage wine contained in the flask. Once again Ulrich's morals took over. He offered Georg some wine and he accepted graciously. As they stayed and passed the flask back and forth they realized they would probably die there the branch and never end their feud. Under the branch in the middle of a stormy night is when they decided to end it. Looking back they realized the only reason they hated each other
was because that was all they knew. They grew up being told to hate one another. So they made a promise, a promise of peace and compainionship. Eventually they continued to call for help. Then Ulrich asked how many people were coming. Georg said that it was about ten. So it must have been Georg's men. When the figures were in plain view they found out it was a pack of wolves. | As for the ending, I'll let you decide, make it fun and imaginitive.
