FC: Thank You Ma'm. By: Langston Huges Retold By: Jenelle Felton 1st Period
1: The large woman walked up the dark street with a huge person. all of a sudden, a boy ran up behind her and tried to snatch her purse. They both tugged at the purse. The large woman had won the battle. She said to the boy, "Pick my pocketbook up." The scared, defeated boy did as he was told. She snatched his him by her shirt and questioned him.
2: The large woman looked at the boy and told him his face was dirty and if anyone at home washed his face. He repiled to her no'm. With that answer the large women started dragging him up the street to her home.
3: When they reach the large woman's house, she asked the boy was he hungry , still frightened he answer yes'm. The large woman still questioning him, told him it would the last time he messed with Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. The boy nervously looked up and sweat beaded down his face.
4: When they reached the door of the large woman, she dragged the boy into her well funerished kitchenette. She still had the boy by his neck and she asked him what his name was. Trembling, he answered Roger. She then told him to go wash up, he did as he was told and went to the sink. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones then asked Roger if he was hungry and started to fix food. She asked Roger why he tried to still her purse. Roger replied that he wanted a pair of blue suede shoes. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones said he could've asked her for the blue suede shoes. Roger wiped his face, looking puzzled at the answer she had given him.
5: There was a long silence. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones then got up and Roger sat there staring at the purse. He thought about leaving with the purse, but his feet wouldn't move. The boy and the large lady ate lima beans and ham. As they ate, Mrs. Luella Bates Washington talked about her hotel beauty shop job. After their conversation and meal, the large woman pulled out a ten dollar bill and handed it to the boy. She told him not to ever make the mistake of snatching someone's purse again and to behave. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington led Roger to the door. Outside on the porched the boy tried to think of something to say besides thank you, m'am . The boy looked up at the large woman and Mrs. Luella Bates Washington closed the door.
6: Literary Term Dynamic Character- Roger Roger, the other main charcter changed a lot throught out this short story. He first was fearless and stupid when he was trying to steal the purse. As soon as he met Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, he became scared and smarter since she talked sense into him and gave him ten dollars for those blue suede shoes he desperatly wanted.
