17: My mother was in between prospective names for me, and narrowed the choice to either Taylor or Jordyn. While in high school, my mother saw the film Cocktail starring Tom Cruise and Elisabeth Shue, and in that film, Shue's character was named Jordan, a name that stuck with my mother over time. My mother wanted a name unique due to the unique circumstances of my birth and picked the name Jordyn but chose to spell it with a "y" as opposed to an "a" to make it more feminine. My middle name Ann, is a family middle name from the women of my mom's side. Due to the fact that my parents were not married at the time of my birth, I found it unique that my mother chose my father's last name Akers as my last name, instead of her last name at the time, which was Crow,. | How my name came about....

22: Preschool Ages 2-4 | From 1997-1999 I still lived in Reed's Point and attended preschool at the Gingerbread Cottage. While there, I expanded my cognitive development as I learned to read and write up to two years above my age level. I had developed verbally and acquired an extensively mature vocabulary given my age however my fine motor skills such as coloring were a bit underdeveloped. My physical development evolved as I began to maintain a normal height and weight despite being a premature baby. From a social perspective, I had little to no difficulty with my peers and ironically enough, I had unknowingly befriended my current best friend Jenna Marshall as we both attended the Gingerbread Cottage, where we both attended preschool 4 times a week. My parents began to instill positive social skills and morals and I learned the value of caring for others as I interacted with both my peers as well as my newly acquired little sister who was born May 7, 1998. In addition, my parents taught me to always be good to people. In my free time, I enjoyed playing dress up and reading the Biscuit series.. | Above is a picture of my best friend Jenna Marshall (left) and I (far right) at the Gingerbread Cottage.

29: My Story: I was diagnosed with depression my 8th grade year and I had gone from socializing at cotillions and dances and being outgoing to strictly going to school playing field hockey and sleeping. I was extremely alone. However with my family's help I overcame it. Interestingly enough, listening to Taylor Swift helped me realize that it was okay to be different and be the girl that no one sits with because eventually people will see you for more and draw to you, a moral that it is extremely applicable to my life. Once I learned to accept myself, I began thriving socially.
