Landfill is basically a dump used for the throwing away of trash, or should we call it "solid wastes". It is also known as garbage dumps, they are the oldest form of organized garbage disposal. Landfills bury the trash that we throw out everyday.
Traditionally, landfills are the most wide spread technique used in disposal.
Even though some industrialized nations have control waste disposal, but it still causes lots of problems for the environment. Such as plants and animals, they are constantly effected by landfills.
 Dumps VS Landfills
A landfill is different than dumps. Dumps are basically a hole in the ground and trash is buried inside for it to decompose. A landfill is where there is a carefully designed structure built in the ground, which trash is separated far away from the surrounding environment. So the trash will be kept dry underground and not have contact with air. under these conditions, the trash will not decompose as much.
After they found a place far away from the surrounding environment, they will have to build the structure there. They start to build roads toward the structure. In some countries, the landfill began 10 feet off the ground.
Large trucks will stop by and dump down the trash.
Contaminated soil may be harmful to wild life and humans | Groundwater, might be contaminated | If landfill is not operated properly, flies, rats might cause numerous diseases.
Needs many years to look after the landfill. | Dust, odor, noise and pollution can be created by the landfill. | Costs lots of money to close down a landfill | Decrease of agricultural soils and loss of organic material to landfill.
Plastic Pollution: Many plastic bags can be found in a landfill, that causes many problems for millions of birds, as well as thousands of marine animals.
Water contamination is common in the ares of landfills. which can have adverse effect on plants and animals nearby. Polluted liquids can flow out of the waste and into the neighborhood. Which often contaminate local water supplies. This can also lead to sickness of both plants and animals.
Soil contamination is a problem in areas of landfills. As waste is constantly buried, the poisons and chemicals spread out over the land, contaminating more and more soil.
Plants are unable to grow or live, and plant-eating animals are at a loss for food and are forced to move.
Landfill is safe because all the employees must arm themselves for every possible hazard.Accidents can occur when tractor drivers reverse without looking or when garbage is not properly compacted and a machine's weight causes the unstable ground to collapseBecause of garbage's flammability, fire is a frequent landfill torment.Chemical reactions, sparks from equipment or the introduction of smoldering waste. In a landfill, everything is Safety first. But sometimes accidents can happen and cause things to got messed up.
