1: Day 1 We began with 12 eggs from the local Farm Store. We purchased an incubator to hatch the eggs with, this should take aproximately 21 days.
3: Students completed handouts, so they could track the growing process of their classroom baby chicks.
4: Day 2 25 hours-heart begins to form 33 hours- ears begin to form 42 hours-heart begins to beat.
5: Day 3 The head begins to turn, the tongue begins to form, the tail has appeared, and wing and leg buds are visible.
6: Day 5 Reproductive organs and the bones and legs being to form.
7: Day 7 A row of feather germs begins to form on the tail, the leg begins to bend at the knee, and the sclera of the eye begins to form.
8: Day 8 Three rows of feather germ are now visible on the tail, the tooth begins to form, the bone marrow cavity on the leg begins to form.
9: Day 10 The comb is now visible, claws begin to form, flight feathers appear, and eyelids develope.
10: Day 15 The scales, claws, and beak are becoming firm.
11: Major Events Day 17-The beak turns toward the air cell, Day 18-the beak breaks through the inner shell membrane, Day 18 and 19-the lungs being to function, Day 19- the yolk sac begins to enter the body cavity and the embroy occupies all of the egg except the air.
12: Day 21 Tooth begins to pip out and the exhausted chick hatches from the egg.
