Life of an Anglo-Saxon By Chase Lewis English 12

People in Anglo-Saxon England originated from German tribes that came to England. The tribes that came to Britain included Angles, Saxons, Frisians, and Jutes.

The Anglo-Saxons arrived in Britain, most kept clear of Roman Towns. They would prefer to live in small areas. Some built wooden houses, and others cleared spaces in forest.

In an Anglo-Saxon family, everyone from babies to old people shared a home. These houses were built of wood and had thatched roofs.

People wore clothes made from woolen cloth or animals skin. The men wore tunics, with tight trousers and the women wore long dresses.

Men, women, and children helped on the farm. Men did all the hard to do work for example, cut down trees to clear land for ploughing. The women and children did more of the little things around the house.

Some people had special skills. The smith made iron tools, knives, and swords. Woodworkers make wooden bowls, furniture, carts, and wheels.

Most people that lived in Roman Britain were Christians. The early Anglo-Saxons were Pagans. They were heard to believe in many gods rather just one.

Anglo-Saxon armies were usually small, with only a few hundred men. Everyone fought on foot during a battle. It must have been like a huge rugby game with all the screaming and yelling.
