FC: Jason, Debbie and Sara | Our Profile
 Jason, Debbie, and Sara 2010
Dear Birthparent, You are facing a huge decision, and this must be very difficult for you to make. We understand that you want to find the best family for your baby and that you have lots of questions about us. Throughout this book we will try to answer as many of your questions as we can guess. Please feel free to ask more about us if we forgot any important answers. Thank you so much for choosing adoption, and especially for considering our family to have the opportunity to adopt your baby. We are Jason and Debbie. We have one biological daughter Sara, age 7, and she is the light of our life. You may be asking yourself why we want to adopt a baby? Sara is our miracle, but our family is not yet complete. We have a tremendous amount of love left over. Jason and I did try fertility treatments to conceive another child but they were unsuccessful. We decided that adoption would be a wonderful way to grow our family. We know that our entire family will shower a baby with love and acceptance, no matter how they arrive. Here is a quick introduction to each of us, with more in the following pages.
Jason is currently a high school math teacher. Before that he was an officer in the United States Air Force and the Army National Guard. Debbie is a pharmacist in a hospital, and specializes in medicine for babies and children. Sara is in the first grade. Her job is to learn and have fun! Bella is our puppy. She makes us all laugh. Grandma Connie is Jason's mom. She is an elementary school teacher. Aunt Heidi is Jason's sister. She is an administrative assistant at a local college. She owns Daisy, our other family dog. We live in the Pacific Northwest, which is a good fit for us. It allows us to be only an hour away from our favorite activity – camping! Jason's mom and sister live only fifteen minutes away from our house. They love to spend time with Sara. We try to get together at least once a week and they will often go camping with us on our trips. We are willing to exchange photographs and letters through the adoption agency.

Jason | Current Job: Teacher of high school Algebra I and Algebra II Previous Jobs: United States Air Force Communications Officer, Army National Guard Brigade Staff Officer and Military Police Platoon Leader. I cooked and delivered pizza in college. Installed modular office furniture with my uncle in college. Cooked at Maranatha Bible Camp in Nebraska during high school. Favorite Things: Technology and games of any type. I play board games, video games and computer games. I have introduced Sara to many of my favorite games, and she has introduced me to Candyland! During the summer I play softball in area leagues. Sara was able to play t-ball this summer for the first time and had a lot of help from me and my mom (grandma Connie), who also plays softball. I like to bowl, and advise my high school bowling club. I love to fish and hunt deer. I try to make a hunting trip to Montana every few years to hunt with my uncle Jack. Singing is something that I love. I actually got to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City with my high school choir and I often sing solos at my church. I'm always singing around the house and on the way home from work. Karaoke is one of my favorite things. Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering. Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education. I am currently working on a Masters of Education Technology. Religion: I was born into a Baptist family and attend services regularly. 7: Debbie | Current Job: Pharmacist, specializing in pediatric and neonatal medicine. My job has given me a lot of knowledge about kids, and I have been able to ask questions of expert doctors and nurses whenever we have a concern or question about Sara - giving us great peace of mind! Previous Jobs: I've worked as a grocery store cashier, library aide, babysitter, telemarketer, pharmacy technician. Favorite Things: Reading books, quilting, cross-stitching, tap dancing. It has been wonderful to share my love of dance with Sara. We both take dance lessons. Now Sara can read some of her books to me. It is awesome to see her learning. I have made many crafts for our home, including Sara's quilt and wall hanging with matching curtains for her room. Education: Doctor of Pharmacy Religion: Catholic. I attend Mass about once a month, and also attend church with Jason at the Baptist church. To me, my faith is not tied to a church that I may attend, but to my time in prayer. I feel that it is very important to show children how to find God in their own way. I do not want to force a child to attend my own church or adopt my religion. I pray that my children will be Christian, but I will love them no matter what. Values: Honesty, respect and courtesy of others, kindness.
My name is Sara. I am seven years old. I go to first grade. I like to climb in the tree in my grandma Connie's yard and I like to go trick or treating on Halloween. My favorite holiday is Christmas, when my mom makes a winter wonderland in our house. It is fun. Favorite things: I also like to go horseback riding. I like to play with my Littlest Pet Shop toys. I love to dance, and I play t-ball. It is fun. Coloring is something else that I like to do. I love to have play dates with my friends. I like to pick tulips with my mom. My dad is funny and makes me laugh. If I had a baby brother, I would like to play board games with him. I would take him to the swimming pool to play. I would take him for walks, I would push him in the stroller. I love my family a lot because they take care of me. | Sara
Dear Baby, The whole family is excited and very pleased to be expecting you in our lives. You will be the one to make the family complete. I will be so glad to have another grandchild to spoil. Sara and I have lots of fun together and we will be happy to share our time together with you. I live in the same town and get to visit my son and his family often. We like to go out to eat together and go camping in the summer. We have lots of family dinners and go to church together. You will be loved and included in all our activities. Your Aunt, my daughter, Heidi will be so pleased to have a nephew. We are looking forward to seeing you and getting the chance to hold you and love you. Love, Grandma Connie | Grandma Connie
Aunt Heidi | My name is Heidi, also known as Aunt Heidi. I'm Jason's sister. As children, while we fought like cats and dogs, Jason and I were still very close. Our father was in the military and the four of us moved frequently and often lived far away from our parents' families. Sometimes all we had was each other and so...we were all close. We are still close. When Jason and Debbie moved, they kept trying to get me to move there, too. Finally they gave me the biggest incentive possible and had a baby. I moved into an apartment just a week before my niece, Sara, was born. My parents moved here, as well, when Sara was nine months old. A year after my father died, my mom and I purchased a duplex only a few miles from Jason, Debbie and Sara. By the way, Jason and I get along a lot better since we grew up. He's one of my best friends. As my niece has grown, I've been very involved in my brother's family life. I've done a lot of babysitting and ferrying Sara to and from daycare and dance lessons etc as needed. She is fun to drive with because you never know what type of conversation you'll have or what type of story or song she'll recite/sing to you. I've also made my mom babysit while Jason and I went to the movies. We especially like science fiction, action/adventure films. As an extended family, we tend to have meals together about once a week, or more. Jason is a great griller and Sara likes to help Debbie in the kitchen. Sara and I like to bake together, especially chocolate chip cookies. Jason fixes things around our duplex whenever my mom or I need him to. We've also been on many trips together, including a cruise to Alaska and an RV expedition to Iowa for Christmas one year. I love spending time with my family and it would be wonderful if we could add a little nephew to our group. I love my little brother and I know Sara would love one, too.

All About Our Family | Our marriage: We have been married now for 15 years. This is the first marriage for each of us. | Work: Jason has a great work schedule as a teacher. During school breaks and summer vacation he is able to be home with Sara. At the hospital Debbie works 10 hour shifts, four days a week. She works every other weekend so she always has two weekdays off. As a result, Sara only requires three days a week of outside child care - just enough for socializing with other kids but not too much! | Child care: We have been very fortunate to find high quality child care. As an infant and preschooler Sara attended a program that was located very close to Debbie’s hospital. She was able to visit Sara every day during her lunch break, which was awesome! Now Sara is with a different program for before and after school care. For date nights either grandma Connie or aunt Heidi (or both!) stay with Sara. We have never had to hire a babysitter! | Pets: Bella is the newest addition to the family. She is a Shih Tzu and was born in July, 2010. Sara and Bella are best buddies. We also have a small fish tank with many guppies that Sara names. Prior to Bella, we had two male Shih Tzu’s, Smokie and Shadow. We are definitely a dog family - we are all allergic to cats! | Where we live: We built a new house during the summer of 2010. There are 4 bedrooms so the baby would have his own room. The house also has a large game room for playing our games, and we plan to add a ping pong table and pool table. Our neighborhood swimming pool is directly across the street from our house for fast and easy access! There are miles of walking paths for walks and bike rides. Parks are everywhere and our favorite is less than five minutes away. | Our New House | Bella
Play time: Right now a lot of our free time is spent playing with Bella. She is hilarious when she tries to play with balls that are bigger than her. We also read with Sara as often as possible. She can read Dr. Seuss books and Fancy Nancy. When the weather is nice Sara loves to play at the park, practice riding her bike, or go swimming. Sometimes she’ll have play dates with friends at our house or theirs. We like to play games in our new game room. Our favorites now are Scrabble Jr and Trouble. On weekends we try to get together with grandma Connie and aunt Heidi. During the week Sara has dance class and Awana at church. Jason advises the bowling club at his high school. | School: Sara attends first grade at our neighborhood elementary school. On Debbie’s days off, she takes Sara to school and picks her up. Sara’s teacher welcomes parent volunteers, and Debbie has been able to participate in the classroom several times a month. This has helped us to get to know the teacher and Sara’s friends. | Parenting: We really like the Parenting with Love and Logic philosophy. It places the responsibility on the child for their action so the discipline fits the situation. This works great for Sara, but we realize every child is different and may require other methods of discipline. We place a very high importance on respectful behavior, which is a two-way street. Every child should be shown love and respect and never shouting or yelling. Our house is full of hugs, kisses and snuggles. When we get short with each other, Sara will often remind us that we are being grumpy! | Sara and Daisy | Debbie and Sara | Sara at the park and swimming pool | Jason and Sara
CAMPING FUN | We try to go camping every weekend that Debbie doesn't work, from May through October. It is an awesome way for us to spend time together away from everyday distractions.
FAMILY TRIPS | Idaho | Montana | Alaska
All things grow better with love.
