FC: My Psalms of Ascent by Denise Moseley

This book contains my rendition of the Psalms of Ascent: Psalm 120 through Psalm 134. These writings reflect what I learned about the concepts of the psalms as I studied them, one by one.

My Psalm 120 This psalm assures me that when I am forced to be around negative, contentious people, I can cry out to the Master to deliver me from their influence...

When I am in trouble or distress, I can cry out to my Master and He will answer me. The Master will deliver me from those who seek to hurt me through deceitful ways.

My Psalm 121 This psalm assures me that my help comes from God--He is always watching out for me--He is my protector...

I keep my eyes fixed on the distance. Where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord, the Creator! He will always protect me from the Evil One. He never sleeps and is always watching out for me. He keeps me right next to Him, under His wing. He protects me as I enter each day and as I end each day, and I have His assurance that it will be this way forever!

My Psalm 122 This psalm clearly informs me that God wants peace within His city (church) and I should contribute to that peace by praying for my church....

I will be glad when my friends and family say to me, "Let us go into the house of the Lord!" I will be glad to have my feet planted inside my church. It is a solidly joined community where I can give thanks to the name of the Lord. I will pray for the peace of my church, that there will be peace within it's walls and prosperity among its members. Because of my brothers and sisters in Christ, I will say "Peace be with you." Because it is the house of the Lord, I will seek its good.

My Psalm 123 This psalm shows me that what we SEE is what we HEAR is what we FEEL is what we EXPECT. Look up to God, hear what His word says, expect it to change my perspective!

I lift my eyes to You, Lord, and see you are enthroned in Heaven. You are waiting to help me when I plead-- I ask for your grace to endure when I've had more than enough disrespect from non-believers-- If I keep my eyes on You and hear You speak through Your Word, I'll value what YOU say. Again, I ask for your mercy when I've had my fill.

My Psalm 124 This psalm tells me that I will be swallowed alive unless I turn to God for my help and grounding. He is on my side!

If the Lord had not been on my side when people came against me, then they would have swallowed me alive with their expectations. The insecurity and doubt would have engulfed me and swept me away. Praise the Lord, Who has not allowed this to happen! I have escaped the pressure of their expectations and I am free! My help is in the name of the Lord, My Maker and Creator, the same one who made heaven and earth!

My Psalm 125 This psalm tells me that God is aware of everything in my life. He circles and protects me. He will take care of the wicked in His time.

If I am really confident in the Lord, I will be as unshakeable as the mountains. Just as the mountains encircle Jerusalem, the Lord's crown of thorns encircle my life, protecting me from the prowling lion. The rule of the wicked will not remain. God does good to the good and will banish the wicked with the evildoers.

My Psalm 126 This psalm is about living between the times....between good times remembered and good times hoped for...

Every time the Lord brings me back from a time away from Him, it's like a dream! Too good to be true! I am filled with laughter and I joyfully sing. Others comment about what a difference the Lord has made in my life. Yes, the Lord HAS made a difference in my life! Now, Lord, I ask You to do it again! Restore me to You like rain to the desert. Even if I cry while I plant, allow me to shout with joy as I harvest! And even if I weep while I sow, allow me to sing as I return with the sheaves!

My Psalm 127 This psalm reminds me that anxiety and stress lead to problems in body and spirit...

Unless the Lord is the foundation of my works, All my efforts are in vain. Unless the Lord has the final say, My opinion doesn't matter. It is of no use to get up early and to stay up late, working all the time. God intends for me to have rest. My children are my reward from God. They are a legacy of my family. They will protect and cover me as I grow older. I will have no need to fear the enemy.

Psalm 128 This psalm is about how God responds to obedience with blessings!

I will be happy if I fear the Lord and walk in His ways. Then what I've worked for will come to me and things will go well. I will bear children who will grow up promising and strong. And I will enjoy my children as yet another blessing. The Lord will reward my obedience with a long life and a big family!

My Psalm 129 Verses from this psalm show me that we can be heard by God, even if He doesn't choose to do what we ask...

There have been times in my life when people have tried to knock me down...but they have not succeeded. For awhile, I let them walk all over me. But the Lord has empowered me to refuse their control. I sometimes feel the tendency to ask the Lord to repay their manipulation back on them...to withhold blessings in their lives. I am thankful that I have the freedom to ask anything of God and be HEARD...but I am also thankful that He makes the final decision about what He'll do!

My Psalm 130 This psalm lets me know that God is faithful to us even when we are not faithful to Him...

In my despair, I call on you Lord. Please listen for my voice, Lord, so you will recognize my cry! Lord, if you kept a record of my sins, how could I stand? But with you there is forgiveness, and I understand you are to be revered. I put my hope in your Word, Lord, and I fully expect it to be fulfilled. Your love is faithful and your redemption is abundant. You redeem me of all my sins.

My Psalm 131 As much as I wish He would, God doesn't reveal all things to us...

Lord, keep my heart from being proud and my eyes from being haughty. Allow your spirit to remind me not to concern myself with matters too great for me to comprehend. Instead, Lord, calm me and quiet my soul. Remind me to just trust you with the unanswered questions of life. I will put my hope in you, Lord, now and forever.

My Psalm 132 This psalm recounts the history of how Jerusalem became the central place of worship...

Lord, I realize that King David's desire to have the ark in Jerusalem was so you would come meet him there. Through many hardships, David learned to appropriately approach sacred things. Being away from you caused David to miss you...caused him to ask you to "arise and come" to your resting place in Jerusalem. Lord, you listen when I talk to you. If I don't talk to you through prayer, I take away the opportunity for you to respond. And I believe your desire is to respond to my needs--even more than I can imagine.

My Psalm 133 Spine issues are the backbone of our faith; rib issues are important but not essential to salvation. This psalm reminds us that our rib issues can be different and we can still be united...

Lord, as a family, you expect us to live in harmony. Although we didn't choose our families, You did! So although we may be different within our families, we can still be united and live together--and we will receive your blessing for doing so.

My Psalm 134 This psalm encourages me to praise the Lord and he will bless me in return...
