FC: Kayci Womack Age: 11 Appendicitis April 2010
It all started when I got sick at school. My dad came and got me and took me home. My stomach was still hurting later that night; I never had something hurt so much before in my life. My mom decided to drive me into the emergency room in the middle of the night so we could see a doctor.
When I first got to the emergency room I met with a nurse. I was then admitted to the hospital and given some pain medication to help me sleep. I was shown to my room where me and my mom slept until the morning.
In the morning I met with a child life specialist. She showed me pictures of what the doctors would look like and how the procedure would go. She said that my parents could stay in the room when the doctors gave me laughing gas. I got to even pick the flavor of the laughing gas, I picked grape! After the procedure she told me I would wake up in a different room, but my parents would be there. She also gave me a stuffed animal to make me comfortable.
I woke up and went back to my room with my parents. The child life specialist came in later when I was not feeling so sleep to ask if I wanted to do an arts and crafts project. She also showed me the play room and the schedule of activities and events. There were some very sick kids around me, the child life specialist talked to me about them and it made me feel more comfortable.
While I was in the hospital my family visited me. They brought me flowers and balloons. It was nice seeing them. A local radio station was doing their radio-athon to raise money for the children's hospital, so I got to meet John and Tammy from 96.3!
I stayed at the hospital for two nights. Most of the time I spent in the play room or making art projects. I always thought the hospital was a scary place, but I actually had a lot of fun!
Before I went home the doctor and child life specialist came in and talked to me. They said I had to take it easy and I could not participate in gym for the next few weeks.
Some of my favorite things I did in the hospital was meeting John and Tammy. Also I loved doing all the art projects and playing in the play room! | One of the things I did not like was the food at the cafeteria!
 After my hospitalization.
