S: North Korea and South Korea

1: -Grace Munschauer Elmwood Franklin School 5-24-10 | I think it is important to know about the world around you. North and South Korea are places I do not know a lot about, so I thought it would be interesting to study. I dedicate this to Mrs. Colpoys because she helped me when my computer was not working.
2: I am going to compare and contrast North Korea and South Korea. I will compare their religions, culture, geography and government.
3: Thesis: | North and South Korea have an identical past, but due to their split, they have become increasingly different.
4: North Korean Government | Government: Highly centralized communist state Independence: North Korea was liberated from Japanese colonial rule by the Soviet Union at the end of World War II. Political Party: Korean Workers Party
5: South Koran Government | Government type: Republic Independence: 15 of Augest 1945, from Japan Political Parties: The Grand Party(GNP), Democratic Party(DP), Liberal Forward Party(LEP), Creative Korean Party(CKP), Democratic Labor Party(DLP) and New Progressive Party(NPP).
6: North Korea Religion | The constitution provides for "freedom of religious belief," but the government does not respect this right. In practice, the government severely restricts religious freedom. The only religious activity that is allowed is by officially recognized groups.
7: South Korea Religion | The constitution provides for freedom of religion. There is no state religion and the government does not show favoritism towards any religion, but the country does celebrate certain religions.
8: Korean Geography | There are mostly hills and mountains separated by deep, narrow valleys; on the coast it is flat. Only 19% of the country is flat enough to be arable. Located on a peninsula between China and Japan.
9: Korean History | The Korean peninsula was first populated by people who migrated from northwestern region of Asia. The two Korea's were constantly under the rule of other countries. The two Korea's separated in 1953.
10: The Korean War | The war left almost three million Koreans dead or wounded and millions other homeless and separated from their families The war lasted for three years.
