FC: Our New Home Erickson & Sons Construction 605 Prairie View Circle Dell Rapids, SD 57022 September 15, 2012 ~ February 22, 2013
Life brings simple pleasures to us every day. It is up to us to make them wonderful memories. CathyAllen | The Home Building Journey begins... After a year and a half of trying to sell our home (201 Sunset Dr.), we finally accepted an offer and closed on August 8th, 2012. From August 2010, we have been busy getting all our plans lined up and ready to go. We've had meetings with Mike our Mortgage guy and lots of meetings with Jim Welbig who is amazingly talented! He brought our dream home to life with perfect blueprints both inside and out! It is hard to believe it is finally happening! What a fun adventure to be on in our lives!

After 8 months of working...we finally saw outside drawings of our house on March 6th, 2011! | The only thing he had to go off of was this picture I found in a magazine and my "rough" drawing! | We just love how it looks!
Saying goodbye to a great home of 12 years!
The Kory Davis Experience finally worked for us!
~Finding our builder~ We had many builders bid our home and just did not feel as if anyone was the right fit until...Darin Erickson was brought to our attention. Darin moved to Dell Rapids 4 years ago, builds custom homes and was also available this fall. After one meeting and conversation with him, both Nate and I were filled with excitement and just knew he was going to be our guy! It is funny how things just take care of themselves when you trust in God to help lead the way!

Day 98 December 25, 2012 The month of December consisted of siding the entire back and sides of the house. Fireplace and can lighting were installed and scaffolding was brought in for sheet rockers!
Day 109 January 5, 2013 | The front of the house is now covered in plastic and they are working on the entry way. The sheet rock is going up as the upstairs in completed first. So fun to see rooms and walls!

Day 121 January 17th, 2013 | The front of our house is going up now. We chose a cement board vs. the siding to accent the front. We LOVE the pattern/texture Darin picked out for us. Those pieces were incredibly heavy but placed to perfection!
P A I N T I N G | This was part of the project we decided to take on. We painted every room except the large open areas and large ceiling areas. We had so much fun coming up with designs, colors and patterns. We also had help from Marcy Anderson until 2:00 painting Jo Jo's pink and Ryan's blue! Mike and Glenda Siemonsma also helped paint the work out room and my craft room. It was many late nights, taking shifts and kids helping through the whole process. | Big Guy Ry's Room! | Jo Jo's Room! | The Boys' Twins room! | Day 121-133 January 18th-January 29th | What a long week of work!
Day 133 January 30th! | The cement board is down and tile is being laid. I had to make several trips to Menards for grout, sealer and more stuff I had no idea about. Good thing Darin was always only a phone call away!
Doors and trim start to go on during the tile work as well. Hard to believe some finishing touches are beginning to take place! | We wonder if the mess will ever really be cleaned up. At this point it seems like it would be impossible!
Day 135 February 1st! | After many discussions with Darin and looking over blue prints to understand what I wanted on the front of the house...he nailed it. I got home from school and he had the board with 2 squares going across the front in place of the windows we did not want in our closet. He continues to be amazing! | Master bath tile begins!
Trim finishing the rooms! | We just LOVE how our tile looks! I picked this out a long time ago as I wanted some metallic shimmer to it!
Day 135 February 1st The Kitchen Cabinets Arrive from Bullseye! I can't believe the work it will take for Darin to get them all hung and in. Nate's office door was also put on!
Days 142-145~February 8-11 Cabinets put into place, staircase newel post put on and windows upstairs are trimmed!
My dad comes down to rescue the closet systems! After getting a bid of $6,000 for our closets to get done, I gave my dad a call and asked if it would be anything he would be interested in helping out with. Sure enough, he showed up that Friday night ready to build closets! We loaded his suburban up with tons of shelving boards and we tackled it all in just one weekend...long days and nights! We also had help from Mike and Glenda again. What troopers they were through the whole process! | dad and Mike | Running the saw! | Our work station!
Days 142-145 February 8-11 The closets turned out amazing and we were so thankful for all the help! | pantry unit | front closet | master bedroom | Ryan's bedroom | Boys' bedroom | master bedroom
Day 146 Feb. 12th Light fixtures go up and shower faucets are put in! | This was one of my favorite memories in picking out things. Nate and I and Glenda all headed to SIoux Falls and between Menards and Home Depot, we found all the lighting fixtures we needed. Somehow we all fit in the van along with all the fixtures. We stored them all at Bon and George's until the electricians were ready!
Day 128 | Mirrors up | Dishwasher Arrives | Rock Pillars are covered | Fireplace is in | Cupboards and Counter tops are in | Sinks are in
Our biggest fear was that one of our children were going to fall off. After many late nights and hours and hours of work, Darin got the railing in and it took our breath away. How beautiful this area turned out! | Day 151 ~ February 17th Our Staircase and railing work is complete!
Day 151 ~ Preparing the floors for carpeting from Flooring America! | Getting the baseball field just right for the boys!
Nate's office is all done and he loves the carpet! | Our bedroom | Big guy's room
Day 151 February 17th Fireplace tile is put on, bathroom sinks are put in with faucets, mattress arrives and finally...TOILETS! Nate and I looked through hundreds of fireplace pictures and decided we just liked the look of simple tile. We used the same tile as our flooring which turned out great!
Day 154 February 20th Carpet is all roughed in and looks so good. It really is going to happen!
MOVING IN! | What crazy days is all I can say! Due to a winter blizzard coming, we had to move all of our things from the apartment up the hill before all the ice and snow came. We borrowed covered trailers for all our big things and we moved like crazy! Darin completed the house, had it completely spotless and ready for us to move in Friday February 22nd. We moved in on day 156 and just look at the boxes we had to get organized. We also wanted to make sure we were in our new home before we went to Hawaii so my dad would have some space to watch the kids. Darin was so amazing throughout the entire process and made it all happen just in time for us. Believe it or not, I did not take any pictures of us moving boxes as I was a bit stressed! I will never forget all the numbered boxes for each room, all our friends that helped us out and most of all, tucking our kids into their beds and spending the first night in our new home! What a dream come true! | February 22nd, 2013 Day 156
March 17 Day 177 | FINALLY! A FRONT STOOP! After many discussions, heating the stoop for 2 months and more...our front stoop got poured. It was a tough move in without a front stoop and only able to use the garage door. Darin tried his best to get them to our house, but there was always a reason it just wouldn't work!
Cement work and landscaping begin in May! | STAIRS FINALLY! | Firepit | Birdie baseball field Nate made for the boys!
Boulder Walls | We had such a rainy and muddy spring that our entire yard was going to be done by June 1st. Needless to say, work didn't really begin until after that. American Underground did all of our landscaping, sprinklers and sod and we were so pleased with their work! | The huge rock pile arrives!
American Underground Sprinklers had the entire sprinkler system in in only about 5 hours. We then had Kwik Curb by Spronk come in and do our edging. What an amazing process that was. It all looks so good! | Sprinklers and Kwik Curb!
Am | Our sod is finally here after the muddiest spring ever! | June 14th, 2013 GREEN SIDE UP!

Dear Darin, Levi and Family, I am amazed daily at how good the Lord is and how he works in such amazing ways! You have no idea how many hours I stayed awake with ideas running through my head and how many drawings I made to make sure our new home would be just right for our family. None of these hours or drawings would have meant a thing if it wasn't for you being placed in our lives. From our first meeting, my heart was filled with excitement and my fears were put to ease. I knew you were going to be so easy to talk to and so easy to work with. I loved coming out to the house every day after school to visit with you and see all you had accomplished in the day. I loved bouncing ideas off of you and showing you my drawings and pictures of my visions. You always found a way to make my ideas come to life and to perfect my projects. Thank you for building us a home we will live in forever. May our walls be filled with family, children and friends for many years to come. May you always know the happiness and laughter we share in our home began with you and all the talents God has given you. You have touched our family for a lifetime and because of that we thank you! Tammy
To My Favorite Builder of All Time... When I look back upon the journey of the last year, I can still remember vividly where I was when you called me for the first time. I was sitting in the parking lot of Dakota Security, and I had just finished a meeting. The phone rang, you introduced yourself, and I guess the rest is history! We had seen and spoken to so many builders at that point, that I guess we were just expecting the same thing. Mitch Adams, Danny Klein, Jarding, Scott Gilbert, Mark Crisp, and many others. However, when Tammy and I met you and Levi for the first time, we both were amazed by your integrity and honesty. We both knew we wanted you and your family to be in charge of our dreams. I guess I can't thank you enough my friend. And although the days we've spent in our house have been great, I still miss seeing you and Levi on a daily basis. You tolerated my intensity with cost, and were extremely kind and patient through all our requests. But more than anything else, I wanted to thank you for the times we shared the Word, and how great of a boy you've raised in Levi. You both have no idea how many times Ive used the two of you as examples for my kids to live by. And Ive wished so many times they could grow to be the type of people the both of you are. Nate
