FC: Our New Old House 1923 - 2015

After renting for 17 years, Jesus gave us an old house filled with character and potential. We are so thankful for all of His blessings, which are too many to count!

 October 2014 | October 2015

We thought getting rid of most of the trees was going to be the last, most expensive project, but God surprised us. DMM Tree Service knocked on our front door a few days after we signed the papers and charged a fraction of the expected cost!

Before, we couldn't see the house for the forest!

We love the old-fashioned light pole in the yard. It's amazing what a little tree trimming, rain, and a can of black spray paint can do.

Painting the metal rails didn't get done until August--what were we thinking??? Hot!!!

South Side: The new roof really changed the look of the house.

 LIVING ROOM

We love the the arched wooden doorways...

Some more views of the living room... | We love having a fireplace! Painting the mantel black really changed its look.

DINING ROOM | We love the arched French doors and windows.

It took four days to remove the wall-paper, clean, and paint.

We couldn't tell before we cleaned the chandelier that it had purple jewels in it. Another reminder that Jesus delights in surprising us!

The name of the shade of purple is "When Blue Met Red."

 More dining room pics...

 My Library...My Sanctuary!

The name of the light green paint is "Healing Retreat" - appropriate name for this room.

 K I T C H E N | Butler's | Pantry

A splash of color makes a difference!

Misc. "After" pics. We took down the florescent lights and put up this one from WayFair. That was a long night, but it was worth it!

A couple of the very few pics we got of actually working on the house. | Steven is a natural "fixer-upper."

We thought we might buy a stackable unit but ended up tearing out the cabinet so that we could keep our old faithful KitchenAid set. | U T I L I T Y A R E A

It's a sweet blessing to be able to display Mom's Coca-Cola collectibles in my kitchen & utility area. Even though she's with Jesus, I still have part of her here with me. She was a loyal fan of the original Coca-Cola drink. I remember how upset she got in 1985 when they came out with the "New Coke." And how thrilled she was that it was an utter failure. "Coca-Cola Classic" was back on the market in less than three months.

KITCHEN HALLWAY | This hallway with all its storage is so unique!

 M A I N H A L L W A Y | We love the built-in phone nook!

 B A T H R O O M

This room didn't get redone until February 2015.

 M A S T E R B E D R O O M | A.K.A. the "Tall Bedroom"

 Cowboy Room

This was our old master bedroom set and is now in the guest bedroom.

O f f i c e | This is also the extra guest bedroom. We left the original wallpaper up to preserve its antiquity.

Backyard & Lil' Joe Jack Carson

It's amazing what a little rain and hard work can accomplish!

This is the end of our book, but not our story!
