FC: Call In Penalty on the PGA By: Seth Roberts

To all those golfers out there that love the game, either to watch or play; everyone knows that golf is suppose to be about having fun, not having to watch your back on everything that you do. This policy is making golfer watch every inch that they move, and it shouldn't be like that at all. These players are part of one of the last gentleman's game and they should leave it to them to do what they do best.

Why would a professional sport want a regular person, who is not at the event, to have a say in the actions of a player? There have been at least four calls in penalties this year, and one call was at one of the biggest and most famous events in golf. It changed the play of that tournament completely! The PGA call in penalty is not important because the rule officials should be the ones that call and judge all play. If any penalties come up, they should judge and interpret the rules of golf from the book.

There has been numerous where in some of the biggest and the smallest that this rule has become a huge controversy between the commissioner and the players. "The unfortunate thing and the reason I don't like this rule is golf is supposedly the last gentlemen's game, there is so much on one player to call penalties on themselves. The player should have the adasity to call it on themselves, not another person." (Webb Simpson)

A prime example of this rule is the first tournament of the year in Hawaii, Camilo Villegas(left) was chipping up to the green during the tournament and removed a divot mark in the ground he had made. The ball rolled back down the hill to the same spot where it was originally. A man from across the country called this on him. Changed his hopes for the tournament completely!

"This rule is just dumb, leave it to the players out here, these players have the most integrity then any other sport." (Bubba Watson) This rule effects everyone on tour, in any way shape or form. They need to get rid of it before it becomes more of a problem then it already is.

Why would a professional sport want a person, at home and not even at the event, having a say in the outcome of the tournament at hand. This policy has been stretched to be a some kind of tournament changer and it isn't good at all. Everyone has there own opinions in this situation but I don't like it at all. It angers people to know that the PGA would go to this for a tournament policy. Next time you think about calling into the PGA for a penalty or what not, think about all the consequences that go with that.
