Contents: Why did the US get involved When did the US get involved Prior to involvement, how did the war start What countries were involved Weaponry Rosie the Riveter WWII & the Depression

In a sense, the US was always involved in the war (what with the lend-lease act). However, with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, FDR was able to win support of the American populace and Congress (excluding 1) to officially declare war on Japan. Consequently, Germany and Italy declared war on the US. With this, the US was officially, totally and completely involved. The US declared war on December 8, 1941. The surrender of Japan was signed September 2, 1945.

September 1, 1939. Germany invaded Poland. Because France and Britain held an agreement to protect Poland, they finally took action and declared war on Germany.

Before the invasion of Poland, Germany had already seized multiple territories without much hassle from the international community. Italy invaded African nations. Japan began it's conquest in Asia.

There were a lot of countries involved, from both the Axis and Allies side, but the ones people would most commonly hear about are the following: Axis: Germany, Italy, Japan Allies: China, France, USA, UK, USSR

Weaponry: Light Machine Gun- these were designed for a single man to carry and use, with or without assistance. Grenades- In the battle of Stalingrad, some Russian soldiers would only bring with them knives and hand grenades for stealthy night raids. Panzerfaust- German anti-tank weapon. Capable of destroying any tank. The late models had a range of about 60-100 meters. Bolt-action Rifles- In the beginning of the war, most soldiers were equipped with these. They were very powerful, accurate, and could each little over half a mile. However, because they needed to be manually reloaded after each shot, they were eventually replaced with newer weapons.

Rosie was the symbol for patriotic female defense workers. She was what inspired women to join workforce. Thereafter, even though women were replaced when the war ended, women knew there were more possibilities out there for them, that they didn't have to stick to the more 'traditional' roles.

Before the US entered the war, they were supplying the Allies with much needed supplies. After entry into the war, all the able bodied males were conscripted. Thousands were needed to fill the gap. People had jobs again. Factories were turning out tons of aircrafts, tanks, ships, ammunition, jeeps, firearms, and all. Production boomed. The massive increase in production during the war is what helped end the depression.
