Today father and me are going to head down to Charles town to sign up for the local militia we will be fighting for liberty with the Patriots.
As I wait in line I think how it has really not been that long since we came to this new world. For example enlightenment still seems so new. People like Galileo Galilei have become famous for studying things like the Heliocentric Theory and the Geocentric Theory. It's a real scientific revolution.
So now I am here to sign my name, Ray Earlington . Next my father, Jack Earlington signed his. We are now in the South Carolina Militia.
Hopefully I will get to see Thomas Jefferson. He wrote the Declaration of Independence.
We will be fighting for a federal system.
It's been so hard lately Great Britain has been taxing us on everything they can. We have to pay extra just for stamps this is getting out of hand which is exactly why were fighting.
I herd some people at a salon talking about the war. It will be interesting. I don't really want to have to fight but its worth our freedom. I am quiet good with a rifle so I am hoping things will go good for me and my father.
People have been talking about social contracts and the bill of rights. all these things sound great it's a real motivation for us to win this war. We have had some troubles in the start but things are finally starting to look up for us now.
Tonight were sleeping under the stars, we have been walking all day. The battles have been hard but were fighting better each time. A lot of the men I fight along side of know all the Red Coats tricks, so were finally taking advantage of our knowledge. I hope this continues because things are looking good. Ive also herd the French could arrive any time also.
General Cornwallis is finally getting nervous because he sees their defeat on the horizon. It feels good to gain our freedom from all the taxes and during this war they have killed so many innocent people and even young children, burning their houses and anything else they can. This is just inhumane and not gentleman like what so ever.
The French have arrived and things are coming to a close. Theirs no way we can lose now! things are going great. I am so excited to see what we can do with this new world now that we have independence also if we have tax it will support us and not someone 3,000 miles away. Things truly are going to be great! Father is just as excited as I am he also cant wait to get home and see mother he has so dearly missed.
Today we have won! Britain finally recognizes us as a separate nation. I was proud to serve for my new country America! I cant wait to get home and see friends and family I have not seen in a long time. It will truly be great.
