S: Richardsons Home Assignment 2011-2012
FC: Richardson's Home Assignment | 2011-2012
Our four and a half years in Mozambique had been challenging but good. Before we left for home assignment we had mixed feelings about what to expect when we returned to the United States. Would we have a place to stay? How would we fit in? Would our churches receive us well? How was home schooling going to turn out? Would our kids make new friends? Things didn't turn out like we had in mind but we believe they turned out better than we could have orchestrated. God's hand was guiding us and preparing us for the year we would have and the people we would meet and bless and be blessed by. This is a family photo summary of our year.
Washing | This was our first time visiting the nations capitol. We had just arrived from Mozambique and decided to take advantage of our layover. We spent two days walking around the National Mall. | The kids were more fascinated with the drinkable water in the fountains than with the monuments. We stopped at every fountain on the Mall.
ton D.C. | It was great to get a taste of our nations heritage and what our forefathers have sacrificed for us to have the freedoms we have. We also toured some of the Smithsonian museums: the Museum of Natural History and the Air and Space Museum, which was our family's favorite.
 A Month on the Road
After D.C. we started recovering from jet lag and began our journey of reverse culture shock. Everything was so much bigger, greener and cleaner than what we had been used to in Mozambique. We stayed with the Reinoso's in Indianapolis to get our car and then went to the Creation Science Museum in Kentucky. We had a lot of fun seeing history from a Creationist's point of view. From there we went to Tennessee to see Michael's granddad and received a surprise when his parents showed up as well. Afterwards, we went to Grace Fellowship Church in Mississippi to visit with our special friends and share our work in Mozambique.
Love is in the Air Michael and I went on our first date to John's Root Beer stand in Waukesha, WI. Seventeen years later we returned with the results of that first date and our marriage (our three lovely children). The bottom right is a photo of Janelle sitting in Frame Park where we did most of our dating.
On our trip out to Washington we stopped at Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota and the Gorge at the Colombia River in Eastern Washington. | “Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children's children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance.” Theodore Roosevelt

day Emily | We took advantage of Emily's Fall birthday and went to Bob's Pumpkin Patch just in time for harvest and the corn maze.
Happy 14th Birthday Janelle!! | On Janelle's 14th birthday we went to the Seattle center with her grandma and Emily.
Wallace Falls State Park Goldbar, WA | 2011
Happy 16th Anniversary! When we got married we decided that we would try to do something a little more special for each 5th anniversary. Since we didn't do anything big on our 15th we decided for our 16th to go to Leavenworth, WA for 2 days. We stayed in a cute motel with a jacuzzi and fireplace, took hikes, looked in the little shops and enjoyed some local specialty foods.
In November Michael and Austin were able to take a trip to Colombia, S.A. They first were in Bogota with the Richardson clan. | Colombia Nov./Dec. 2011
...then on to Puerto Inidida and the surrounding areas where Michael grew up. | Above: Michael's old house | The port is one of the only ways into town. | A unique street because there are no cars. | Bombing around on a borrowed bike.
Michael loved showing Austin the Finca. | It was a really neat opportunity for Michael to return to the old school base, where he had spent so many years, and for Austin to see a little better the world his dad is coming from.
Michael and Austin returned from Colombia a few days before Christmas. We hosted a Granger family dinner at a friend's house where we were house sitting. A couple of weeks later we had a snowstorm which Michael and the kids took advantage of to make snow forts and ice cream. | 2011

 Mt. Rushmore
Yellowstone is one of our favorite places to visit. This was the first time Emily remembers and she was very scared of the buffalo since they were so huge. This place is like God's playground.
