BC: Return with the Elixir | Captain Miller,dying, talks to Ryan. He mentions words on hope and courage for Ryan's life. Even though his whole squadron was killed except 2 men, he says that at least they accomplished their mission. Then men watching learn what true honor is.
FC: Saving Private Ryan Hero's Journey Project Brandon Hart Travis Belich 6th
1: Ordinary world | This world composes of Captain miller living and struggling through a battlefield on the shoreline of D-Day. Miller shows signs of nervousness and tries to show his brave side, with little success. He also has a shaking in his hand, that he cant control he is the leader, but uses lots of advice
2: Call to Adventure | While at a base camp on a beach, a superior officer asks Miller to go on a mission with his men and bring back Private Ryan safely. This is because Ryan's three older brothers were KIA.
3: Meeting with the Mentor | A lower ranking soldier, under Miller, turned out to be the mentor. Private Jackson was born a christain and gave multiple small speeches on how what they are doing is for a good cause and they can do it as a team and only as a team. Jackson first showed his actions during the first scene on their journey, through a field along a tree line.
4: Refusal of the Call | Captain MIller understands its an important mission, but brings up how its suicide, and that him and his team are risking their lives for one man. The same goes with a few of the other Privates in his squadron.
5: crossing the First Threshold | Miller leads his men to a small city. they meet up with other soldiers who are bruised and battered. One soldier offers to take a child to safety and is shot by a sniper.
6: Tests, Allies, Enemies | Tests: How they would leave the beach, and how they would take out a Nazi gunship up a steep hill. Allies: Private Ryan, other U.S. soldiers, French civilians Enemies: The Nazi soldier that was taken as a POW that was released. The Nazi army
7: The Squadron, led by Miller, find Ryan and his men in a small city accessed to by a bridge. His Goal is to get Ryan home alive. The U.S. soldiers encounter Nazis passing by to take over the city. Many die. | Approach to the Inmost Cave
8: Ordeal/Death experience | A group of soldiers leave Captain Millers presents. they capture a German tank and are happy. suddenly a Nazi .50 cal machine gun takes them all out. Captain Miller and his men are nearly out of ammo. his troop size has decreased to nearly a third. Miller panics and his decisions become more deathly critical.
9: Reward | As stated by the U.S. generals command, saving Private Ryan, was to get him and then lead him away from the Nazi army to a safe protected zone, then he can be brought home. they eventually found Ryan, unfortunately he would refuse to move until forced to by the Nazi army. After countless death experiences, Captain Miller grabs Ryan and crossed the bridge to more safety. the Nazis could not cross the bridge because there was a bomb on the bridge. there was more cover and it was only a one sided shooting.
10: The Road Back | The bomb didn't explode the bridge. Miller gets shot in the hand. The released POW Nazi soldier is shown to be killing many Americans who are vulnerable to him in his firing range.
11: Resurrection | Miller confidence grows and takes the advice given to him from his men and sits back and tries to save and help his men. He Does eventually get shot in the chest twice. He finally sees U.S. planes blow up the Nazi tank and the bridge.
