FC: The Science of Chagrin Falls By Cassie Sferra
Root Action When a root from a plant wedges into a crack in the rock. As the root grows, the cracks enlarge and the rock will eventually break. | Physical weathering
Frost Action When water freezes in a crack in the rock and slowly wedges apart the pieces of the rock. This is by the upper falls.
Rust/oxygen In these pictures, the rocks have rust on them. This is an example of chemical weathering. | This rust is on different rocks in the upper and lower falls. | Chemical weathering
Carbonic Acid This picture shows the white deposits on the rock bridge by the upper falls. | Moss/living organisms In this picture you can see the moss on the rocks in the river by the upper falls | Chemical weathering
Underneath Mario's there is erosion on the land. | This picture shows the erosion of the land underneath Mario's. Eventually, the land will completely erode away from underneath the building.
These steps show erosion by Triangle Falls. | Erosion is the carrying away of materials.
This picture shows erosion of the plants by the lower falls.
This picture shows the erosion of the land around a tree in the river by the lower falls. The water is carrying away the land under the tree.
