Dana, her Mom, and her Dad were planning on making the house a bed and breakfast, until a mysterious discovery puts all their plans on delay... Dana, being an only child has to help her Mom around the house when her Dad is at work. That hot summer morning they were scraping off the

never-ending layers of wallpaper, still clinging to the walls. Dana has the bright idea to use a carpet scraper to dig a hole, and try to pry off the wallpaper. She digs a hole big enough that pretty good sized cocker spaniel could fit in. Then the carpet scraper hit wood. Dana stuck her hand into the hole and pushed to see how thick the wood was. Then it gave in.......

Suddenly the wooden door swung back and Dana yelled,''Mom the flashlight quick!!'' She shined the light through the hole.... Inside there was a full skeleton..... This chapter takes place in April 1856. Some Negro strangers come to stay with James, his mother, and his sister while his dad is away. James' mother, Millicent, told the family not to

tell their names, so that if someone asks any Weaver if they know them, they can honestly say no. The strangers have helped the Weavers out tremendously with around the house chores. Then James finds out that the strangers are really fugitive slaves on the run....

Dana and her mom call 911 to get some information about the skeleton. Police officers, and doctors from all over come to investigate this unusual case. Dr. Baxi discovers that some of the ligaments are still connected to the bone. Also that the skeleton has all their teeth. After a while of studying the bones the doctors find out that the skeleton is a female, Negro woman, between 130-140 years old.......

That night someone came for the Negro family to take them to the next station. James and his little sister Rebecca can't tell their dad about the family coming at all.........

 Part Two

Dana found the diary of Millicent Weaver, but she hasn't told anyone shes found it. Later on she tells her mom and her dad that she has the diary. She promises to give it back to Dr. Baxi on July 1st.

James' pa, Caleb comes home. Ma brings up slavery, and whether Caleb was for or against. Caleb replies by saying," Even though slavery is wrong, it's still illegal to help Negros.''

Dana's friend Ahn is over. They're snooping around in the hidden room. They still didn't find out anything that they didn't already know. Later on Dana shows Ahn the journal.....

James and Jeremy see some people up on a hill looking like they're about to go to war. The Marshall came down the hill and got into a heated debate about slavery with the towns people.

Dana is very interested in Millicent's diary. She reads in the diary that one time the house caught on fire....... The people come off the top of the mountain and fired a cannon ball at the town. The Weavers had to bury some of their possessions in the yard, because their house caught on fire.....

Lizbet Charles comes to stay at the Weaver's house while Caleb is away. They enjoy her company because she tells many fascinating stories.

 Part Three

Dana was home alone when a tornado came. She didn't majorly panic until she was down in the cellar and she started thinking about Lizbet Charles being in the same cellar that she was in.

Dr. Oloney claimed that he was the one that made Rebecca feel better when she was sick, but Lizbet knows it was her wild indigo tea. Lizbet decided that she was going to go help find more slaves, even though a bad storm was brewing.......

Dana and her family go to visit her cousin in California. On the plain ride back she lets her dad read the diary. Dana finds out that James Weaver built the famous Wolcott castle in her neighbor hood.

Ma asks Lizbet not to go but she decides to go anyway. Right before she leaves she tells Solomon (another slave staying at the Weaver's home) not to get married. Marshall Fain suspects that the Weavers are helping slaves, so he sends men to watch their house closely.

Ma's pa dies, her and Rebecca go to visit Millicent's mom,and go to the funeral. Whiles shes gone Lizbet comes back and shes very sick. A couple days later Lizbet dies.

While at the Wolcott castle, Dana finds a big tree. Right beside it is a stone that says Buildings may crumble but leaves and grass are eternal, I plant this tree in memory of Matthew Luke Charles, and Elizabeth Charles - April 1, 1877. J.B.W. ( James Weaver)
