FC: Stories Told by Tattoos | Mission Statement: To introduce the art of tattooing. Made through meaning, stories, and culture. | By: Roxana Rodriguez Donato Art 1030 Amee Patel

1: Engraving: artist creates clean-cut lines forcing the sharpened point of a burin across the surface with the heel of the hand | Fluid medium: liquid medium used to make a drawing; ink | Print: a picture or design made by pressing or hitting a surface with a plate or block

2: Support: the surface of a drawing | In this case of tattooing, the human body is the main surface for the art being drawn

3: Palette: the artist's choice of colors as seen in a work of art | mixed in this tattoo are subtle bright oranges and reds, calmed by the sea-like greens and blues; in turn, brings out the nature of the sea turtle

4: One-point perspective: parallel lines converge at a single vanishing point on the horizon | Cartoon: a drawing that caricatures or satirizes an event or person of topical interest | Texture Gradient: closer objects are perceived as having rougher or more detailed surfaces | Implied Motion: viewer infers that motion is occurring or has occurred

5: Texture: The surface character of materials as experienced by the sense of touch | Pain | wet | Soft | Sharp | visual | actual

6: Realism: portrayal of people and things as they are seen by the eye | Art and Beauty: Something shared by both of these pieces; though one is a child, and the other is an animal they both symbolize something important and share the idea that both are realistic works

7: Iconography: the study of themes and symbols in visual arts | Culture | Heritage

8: Collage: an assemblage of two-dimensional objects to create an image

9: Non objective: no reference to reality | Abstract: departs from reality | Amorphous Shapes: shapes not clearly defined or derived from nature or the laws of geometry | Symmetry: similarity of form or arrangement on both sides of a dividing line

10: So What makes Tattooing art? | It includes a medium, support, palette, perspective, texture, realism, abstract, iconography, shapes, objectives, purposes... | Altogether, tattooing, just like all art, has a purpose and evokes emotion. It expresses the artist and the owner.
