FC: The 1960s

1: First Man On The Moon There were three astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin and Michael Collins. They blasted off on July 16, 1969. The first man on the moon was Neil Armstrong from Apollo 11. On July 20, 1969, Neil placed the American flag on the moon. On July 24, 1969 they returned to earth. I chose this picture because it was the first man on the moon. | Art.com

2: Martin Luther King, Jr. I chose this picture because of Martin Luther King, Jr.speech called ," I Have a Dream". the speech was about civil rights movement and trying to get everybody to get along. Martin wanted to stop segregation. | activerain.com

3: The reason I chose this picture was because in 1963 president John F. Kennedy,Jr. was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. JFK was a popular president. People thought that he knew what he was doing. People appreciated what he did for his country. | navsource.org

4: The Beatles I chose this picture because in 1964 they left Britain and came to the United States. This was called the British Invasion”. The Beatles performed on US television and almost 74 million people watched.

5: The Vietnam War I chose this picture because in 1960 the US got involved with the Vietnam War. Even though it wasn't their war the US came and helped anyways. Many Americans had opinions about why they should go to war and why they should not. 58,220 Americans died during the war and 303,635 were wounded.

6: The First Heart Transplant I chose this picture because in 1967 Christiaan Barnard was the first man to do a heart transplant on a human. This was important because no one had ever done it. 3,500 hearts are transplanted on humans each year. | time.com

7: Woodstock Music Festival I chose this picture because in 1969, 500,000 people went to a concert. That concert lasted 3 days and had 32 bands that preformed. People were acting crazy and doing drugs. The governor of New York wanted to send out 10,000 troops to stop the festival. But he never did. | cedarville.edu

8: Space Exploration I chose this picture because in 1962, John Glenn became the first American to orbit the earth. In 1961, Alan Shepard became the first American to be launched into space. In 1966, Luna 9 had completed going to the moon. In 1966, Surveyor 1 became the first spacecraft to land on the moon. | makethelist.net
