FC: The Life of Esther Earl | Your Star Won't Go Out
1: Esther Grace Earl August 3rd, 1994- August 25th 2010
2: Esther's name is Persian for "Star", and she was named after the biblical Queen Esther.
3: Esther Earl was born in Beverly, Massachusetts. She was the middle child, between two older sisters named Abby and Angie, and two younger brothers named Graham and Abraham.
4: When Esther was 12, she was diagnosed with metastasized papillary thyroid cancer | The tumors were already in her lungs. The next several months were full of treatments and a thyroidectomy.
5: Esther then continued to undergo adio-iodine treatments, xrays, CT scans, a bi-pap machine, extensive medications, occasional stays in the hospital, and eventually experimental chemotherapy.
6: Before she died, Esther started making video blogs on youtube, vlogging about her life, her cancer, social justice issues, and her passions. | Esther was also a part of many online communitities, and a huge fan of both Harry Potter and John Green, author and youtube video blogger.
7: Pictured here is Esther, one of her younger brothers, many of her online and real life friends, and John Green.
8: Esther was very devoted to the organization The Harry Potter Alliance, a nonprofit organization that promotes human rights, literacy, and disaster relief efforts
9: Esther, with the help of her online friends, helped win a grant in a contest for $250,000 for the Harry Potter Alliance. John Green, A New York Times Bestselling Author, (pictured on the far left) encouraged his fans to vote with Esther, and helped her achieve her goal. | Esther also greatly influenced John Green in his writing, and was the basis of his newest book, The Fault in Our Stars
10: Not only did Esther touch the lives of many people with her work of the Harry Potter Alliance, but she touched the lives of many people in her life as well.
11: Esther loved "monkey bars and climbing ropes, rescuing abandoned Saudi cats, skiing the Alps, impromptu photo shoots with her sisters, designing web pages, teaching herself to play the piano and making her family laugh with joy." | Ironically,on August 25th 2010, the day Esther died, Hurricane Earl swept up the East Coast.
12: “She would have said herself that she lived a very full life, she didn’t waste any time,’’ said her father, Wayne. “She had a sense of what was important. Esther is in everyone’s heart, she’s absolutely here, and will pull us all forward.''
13: “One thing that drew everyone to Esther more than everything else, more even than her hilariously adorable qualities, was that she loved so purely,’’ one of Esther's friends said. “We talk about her shining on even though she’s no longer with us. She loved so deeply and genuinely. That really was her light and what gave her that hopeful, beautiful quality. As long as she has people who knew her as she was and who remember her, her love will always live on.’’
