FC: The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade

1: In Africa they used slavery as a punishment for serious crimes. People started to kidnap Africans to use as slaves when they were in demand. In Africa, the slave owners respected the slaves. They had easy chores to do around the house and were mostly considered part of the family. | A lot of Africans were kidnapped and brought over to America to be sold. On the ship ride over, the conditions were awful. The slaves were put in a room in the bottom of the boat with very little room to themselves. The smell in the air was terrible because of the dirty people.

2: Many people died on the ship ride over because the conditions were so bad. When they reached their destination, plantation owners and merchants would go on the ship and look at the slaves in hopes of finding one that they wanted to purchase.

3: Unlike in Africa, the slaves were not treated very well in the new land. They were not considered part of the family like Africa and they did a lot more work.
