13: History of the Bloss House The historic "Bloss House" is one of the few parts of Atwater's history that still exits from of the turn of the century. Built 1913 the home represents the family that founded and built Atwater So take a walk through part of our Valley's history. | The Bloss House As Of Today As of today the "Bloss Home" is open to the public with guided tours on the first and third Sunday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The grounds and Bloss Park are available for any events through the Atwater Community Services Department Dennis and Patricia took the opportunity to use the "Bloss House " grounds for their out side wedding on June 25, 2011 | Slowly Atwater began to develop in 1900 In 1878 Atwater's first school opened. In 1911 a weekly news paper started In 1912 the San Joaquin light and power company brought electricity In 1913 the Bloss home was built on Cedar Avenue between First and Second Streets where it still remains . In 1922, Atwater was incorporated and George Bloss Jr. was the Mayor. | George S. Bloss , Sr. came to Atwater in 1884 from Woodbury Connecticut. In 1890 and 1891 vineyards were planted . Within the next year George Sr. had built a two story - home for him and his family as they lived in a small dwelling across the railroad tracks on Third and Atwater Boulevard. As time went by Mr. Bloss Sr. became engaged in farming , as more and more families settled in the area, during the later part of the century attracted by conditions favorable for growing peaches, berries, and other corps
