3: The very first time we met was at the Freshman Picnic at Dodge Park my first semester at Grace. Lee was a sophomore that year, 78-79, serving on the recreation committee which happened to be in charge of several of the activities during our first week of orientation. Janet, Nancy, Joan, and I were waiting in front of the student center for a ride to the picnic and we just ended up riding with Lee. He had his big Impala then and we all crowded in to the back seat. On the way to the park he raced some other Grace kids, we were scared to death an vowed we would never ride with him again! We did make it back safe and sound though and it was not long before I found myself approaching him to ask about a ride to and from work everyday. He worked at Siegs, 2 doors down the street from the print shop. We got to be super close friends through riding together to work. Soon we found out we both jogged and worked out a lot so we often ended up running together. I thought he was going with another girl at this time, so I never thought of our relationship as anything but a good friendship. Actually, he was dating this girl from time to time only one evening after a run together he asked me to go with him to a concert. I accepted- Our first date was November 1st, 1978
4: The Proposal August 14th, 1980 | Lee had come to Omaha a couple of weeks before the rest of the students from Grace returned for class. We had put our ring set on lay away quite a while before this time at Bonsheins and I sure didn't think we'd be getting engaged for a while. Lee told me once that it wouldn't be until after Christmas, so, I was really unexpected of what was about to happen. It was a Thursday night and Lee asked me to go out to dinner with him after work since I was leaving the next day to go home for the weekend. He took me to Village Inn over in Council Bluffs, one of our most frequented eating places because of the atmosphere and the delicious omelets. We enjoyed going there to just relax and talk. But this night he did not say much and I began to worry he was really upset. The day before I had thought something was wrong too and had asked him if everything was alright all he said was " I cant tell you now, wait till tomorrow. Don't worry everything is okay." So of course I worried. After supper we drove out through the Bellevue toward the country on Hwy 73-75 he pulled off into a grassy spot and just sat there. He asked if I would rub his neck because he has a headache. As I did he leaned over the steering wheel and slid his hands down under the seat. Little did I know he was getting my ring. He sat up, put his arms around me and hugged me as he thanked me for rubbing his neck. He fooled around with my hair as if a bug were in it then, " Look what was in you ear." As he slipped it on my finger, and I shook, he asked me to marry him. HAPPILY , I said Yes!
