Teenage pregnancy is a social problem that is often overlooked or taken lightly. I think that today's society has found teenage pregnancy to be more socially acceptable then in earlier years. More and more I feel the like popularity of teenage pregnancy is increasing and sometimes I feel as though it is even glamorized. With teenagers getting television shows base soley off being a teenage mother, how are we going to teach society to be more responsible and wait until they are at the age they feel they are ready to have a child?

Although I feel that pregnancy is such a beautiful thing, I do think a lot of teenage mothers are not ready for it. There are some cases where it works out better than anyone could have hoped for, but also some where it is setting up an innocent child for a way of living that they do not deserve. Although I am out of my teen years now, I am still very passionate about this subject because throughout high school I saw one of my best friends go through this. I think it forces someone that is too young to make decisions they are incompetent of making.

Photo: ID 42-21096814 Photographer: B. Boissonnet Date: July 24,2007 | When a teen is pregnant she still has a few options. Adoption is an option that is sometimes best for the baby and the teen, and there is also the option in some states of abortion. Although adoption often results in a loving, competent family it can leave the teen with emotional damage.

Although some teens may be fit to be mothers, I think it causes a struggle with them trying to figure out how to balance normal things in their teenage lives, and being a mother. | Photo: ID 42-24027165 Photographer:Mika Dated: Unknown

jjj | In conclusion, I think the issue at hand with this social problem is about the child in the situation. Taking a functionalist perspective, I think that society needs things like this in order to function. It creates needs for childcare and other jobs, doctors, lawyers, etc. Photo: ID 42-33095530 Photographer: Antoine Arraou Date: unknown
