FC: Welcome to my life

The pictures in this photo essay are bright and colorful because they reflect my personality..

When I was in elementary and middle school, I would always watch home improvement and design shows. Because of this, I have developed a love for art and a fascination in creating different things, such as designing my own room and painting for fun. In William Blake’s “The Tyger,” the speaker questions, “Did he who make the lamb make thee?” (Blake, 20) showing the creators ability and creativity to make a ferocious tiger and a tender lamb. Like the creator in the poem, I am able to portray varying feelings in my photography and painting. These pictures have many colors and designs in them, which portrays the way I think when it comes to creating things. Anything with a simple design may take just as much creativity as a complex, multi-colored mural. Creativity is what you make it to be.

Although these pictures do not have much color, they show the true meaning of friendship: being there for another person. I strive to be as friendly as possible. Growing up, I participated in three sports at a time; so I was around people for the majority of my time. Because of this, I have realized that it is better to be a friend than an enemy, especially if you do not know the person. In Edward Scissorhands, Edward never has much interaction with other people; but he is still able to interact with everyone he meets. The community is unwelcoming at first, but Edward’s influences rub off on the community as a whole and they realize he is friendly.

Whether it is a long journey through the desert or down a river, or striving to pop the bubbles floating through the air, these pictures show the motivation people have to achieve things. My parents have always pushed me to go after what I want. They are both extremely successful business people, both owning their own businesses for around twenty years. Seeing their motivation to set a good example for my sister and me has led me to want to follow in their footsteps. On the contrary, the speaker in “Ode to a Nightingale” by John Keats simply wants to die and admits: “That I might drink, and leave the world unseen, and with thee fade away into the forest dim” (Keats, 19-20).

Sports have always had a major influence on my life. I have participated in some kind of sport for the past 13 years of my life. I love to be around new people and especially like meeting new people. I do not enjoy awkward situations; so I try to keep a steady conversation going. In Edward Scissorhands, Peg’s job as a sales representative requires her to have an extremely bubbly personality. Even when Peg gets rudely rejected or doors slammed in her face, she keeps on going and is able to interact with anyone she comes across. The pictures on the page show that it is easy to reach out to people and to show many different sides. The bright colors symbolize being bubbly and talkative instead of shy and timid.

My close friend, Kelly Fitzgerald, dropped everything she had in her life here in Atlanta to become a missionary for Amigos for Christ in Nicaragua. Although I see her once every four or five months, her compassion for the children in Nicaragua shows through her pictures she sends me. Kelly’s love for these children has led me to be a more caring person. It is never known when something will happen to someone you love, so why not give them the most love you can every day? In Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dorian does not have this care for those around him. Even when “[he] wondered if the ruin of the young life was really to be laid at his door, . . . Yet, after all, what did it matter to him?” Dorian shows no sympathy for the life of Adrian Singleton. Dorian has corrupted Adrian and does not even care that Adrian’s life will never be the same. These pictures show that caring for a person and having love for them will always lead to happiness and a better situation for everyone.
