FC: Todd & Kristen

The Story of Us | Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our family. We are Todd, and Kristen. You are showing much grace and courage in considering this option for your child and we are excited to begin the journey towards welcoming a new baby into our family. We hope the next few pages will provide you with an insight into who we are, our hopes, dreams, and the love and warmth we have to share with your child.

We are Todd and Kristen Shaw. We have lived on Long Island in NY for the last seven years. We have a four year old son named Brady, a cocker spaniel poodle named Finn and we have been giggling and laughing ever since. Todd and I had known "of each other" since 1979. Todd's brother Bradley married my childhood family friend, Maggie. When I moved back from California in October 2003, I went out for Thanksgiving with my family and Todd was there (Maggie had arranged to sit next to us!). We spoke of my travels in California and he of his living downtown in NYC and career. It was great to see an old friend after living away for so many years. Just as soon as you knew it, we were having delicious dinner dates at the bistros in the West Village, bike riding on the streets of downtown Tribeca and meeting all of our friends living on Long Island together. We even went to the The New Orleans Jazz Festival that Spring. By the end of the summer, after many adventurous times on his fishing boat, we thought getting married would be a great idea. We had learned so much and had so much more life in us to live.

Our Honeymoon, Turks & Caicos Nov 2004 On a sunny Friday afternoon in September 2003, Todd proposed to me with a sparkling star of a ring. We got married that November and had a wonderful ceremony at the Episcopal Church on Madison Avenue. This was followed by a small intimate reception with 60 of our best friends and family. We called it the Love Fest because everybody danced all night long. The caterers and photographers said to us, where did your friends come from? "Everyone seems so happy!" The very next day we traveled to the bright and white sandy beaches of Turks & Caicos. It was the best trip either one of us ever had. With our wisdom and love for life, we celebrate everyday together.

Friends | When you marry you always hope for the best and work super hard at making it great. We understand that to be married is a gift. We make certain we are taking care of each other as best we can because then we will have a very happy family. Todd and are best of friends.

"Dinner on Father's Day at Home" We have the same sense of humor and disposition because we grew up in the same location in the US. We are also the same age. We have a lot in common from our childhood experiences like swim team, skiing, and having connected friendships. It is unique. As young adults Todd lived in Manhattan for many years and I in San Francisco. We also have the same interests, like preserving wildlife and the environment, traveling in nature and raising a family together. Having a family is a wonderful gift. We are excited to share these same experiences and new ones with another child. We both come from the town where we now make our home. We live in an old home (circa 1894) on Long Island, NY. We enjoy a life with lots of friends both new and old. We enjoy our home together. Everyone says it feels like a happy house when you enter the doorway. We enjoy cooking together very much. Todd plants the garden, I maintain the vegetables and also create bouquets with the spring and summer flowers.

Kristen with Finney and holding a baby goat on Easter Sunday

Kristen is a fun, playful, intensely committed woman. She is thankful to be a mother and wife so having the ability to stay home is such a joy! She loves to go swimming and play with her son Brady. She loves to design and decorate her home in happy colors. Kristen is becoming an avid bird watcher and is interested in environmental and wildlife preservation. Recently she has become a weekly blogger and daily tweeter about nature and other fun things! This is a perfect hobby while running around the house with Brady and Finney (our dear cocka–poo). Since the arrival of Brady she cherishes the opportunity to spend so much time with him. We look at birds together, go to the playground, swim and sled near the lake by our house. She cannot wait to share these same experiences and new ones with another child.

Birdwatching with Med in SHelter Island and at dinner with friends on Lady K!

With friends in NYC and Family in Vermont and Cuba!

At the Arboretum and at a NYC Benefit.

Todd | Todd as Captain of Lady K , and as the family man. Todd is a kind, genuine, very hard working person. He enjoys being a father and spending time with the family. He is Kristen's best friend and she is so happy to see that he is enjoying fatherhood so much. Todd also enjoys skiing, boating and is a super gardener of flowers, herbs and vegetables. Todd enjoys getting together with family very much. Every week he is open to cook dinner for the entire family. Having Sunday dinner at our house is always the best!

Traveling To Spain (this page) and opposite page at the beach and at Kentucky Derby | For the last few years we have spent the summers on our boat, Lady K. We meet the most wonderful people and families. We go to an organic farm in Block Island with animals, vegetables and flower gardens (where we walk to from town.) We go to the beach there as well. It is perfect for the little children to learn how to swim in the ocean! Last summer we enjoyed an extended stay in Montauk and enjoyed all of the natural settings that beach has to offer.

Brady on Vacation and Having Fun | Brady In April of 2007, we learned that we were pregnant and were so thankful. Brady came into the world in January 2008 and nothing has been the same since. He has turned into a an adventurous young boy! We wanted Brady to grow up independent and fearless and he has done just that. He loves being outdoors, designing elaborate tracks for his trains, playing his piano and drums and playing catch with our very fun dog... Finney. Brady loves school and going places like the playground, the beach. boating and even skiing. He loves to build with his Leggos all day long. We love to play outside whenever we can, even if it is raining or snowing... we get out there! We decided one day that Brady is such a gentle and sweet guy that a sibling would be great for him. We are ready and eager to complete our family and Brady is sure that he will be the best big brother ever.

"We love to adventure at the beach and everywhere." | Summer We love to adventure as you can see. If we find that your baby has different interests/talents we will fully encourage them to pursue their interests! For the past three years we have had one better adventure after the next on our boat... Lady K. We meet the most wonderful people and families on our journeys.

Family This is our wonderful family at Thanksgiving above and at the barn in Shelter island. The photos on opposite page are at Christmas with our cousins. We both come from social and fun families that absolutely love children. We are thrilled that another baby may be coming soon! All of Brady's grand parents... Grandma Jane (who lives just five minutes away), Meddi and Pop Pop (whom live out east on Long Island), our cousins (Patrick, William and Blake) all live just minutes away. We have the chance to enjoy holidays and time together all year round. One of Brady's grandparents (shown below) is Meddi with her horse and above is his Uncle T.

Here we are with our sisters-in-law during a pumpkin carving party... and with friends on opposite page. Spending time with our friends is important to us. Many of them live nearby or close enough that we can see them often. We try and get together for dinner and catch up on each others busy lives. Recently we visited a wonderful arboretum and looked at trees, flowers and we even saw a hummingbird! We treasure the moments we share and they will become even more special with another child in our family. Traveling has always been a big part of our lives. We recently took the family to Barcelona, Spain and Miami FL, and we spend the summer on our boat Lady K.

Memorial Day We love the parade in Babylon, Long Island. Each and every year we are at the parade, waving our flags and cheering our community on. This has been a tradition in our family and we will bring it to your beautiful baby too. Just after the parade we head out to barbeque at the beach on our boat. Fourth of July ! The last few 4th of July's have been spent on the beach in the East End of Long Island. We really love the beach, the nature and the outdoors. That is where we are every summer holiday!

 Lasting Memories...

"Autumn is a fun and creative time. It is time for fun with family at the parade in Shelter Island and with friends at the Coffee Shop. | Halloween is a terrific time of year for the kids. These photos are from the Fireman's parade in Shelter Island with Meddi and Pop Pop. We all dressed for the occasion which we would love to do in the future as well. We first go trick or treating with our cousins and then home with our great neighborhood friends. We celebrate Fall both at school and home. We love going to visit our family out east and enjoying the wonderful pumpkin farms. We enjoy the harvest. We celebrate every day and the Fall is no different.

Todd and Kristen both come from very close and “fun” families. Both of our parents live nearby and we are able to see them quite often. We get together often for dinner or a visit, and all of them love to spend as much time as possible with their grandchild. We also have an incredible extended family with aunts, uncles, parents, cousins and friends. We see each often where we play games, cook together, laugh and reminisce. There are plenty of hugs to go around and sharing all of this and more with a bright eyed precious child is our dream.

Thanksgiving Even though we have been together for seven years it seems we are building our traditions each year. Grandma Jane always brings the Indian chief head dress which we all love. We enjoy having our family and friends over to our house for Turkey dinner. It is a wonderful time to together and we would love to share this with another child.

Christmas We have a new and fun experience with each passing Christmas because it feels like we have just gotten started. Todd loves Christmas so much... each year we decorate our home with lots of Christmas Fantastic! Christmas is also about family and getting together. Brady is just realizing how wonderful Santa Claus is and we cherish the opportunity to enjoy these moments with another child also.
