S: Pregnancy Journal - Levi Jude Porter
Our journey through the pregnancy of little baby Levi Jude ("Baby P"). Our handsome, sweet, perfect little boy. We will always cherish our first 9 months together. Lovingly, Mommy, Daddy & Lukas
It was a chilly day in January when I realized I might be pregnant. I was out of work due to bronchitis and a double ear infection and feeling rather poorly. About mid-day Thursday, I received a pop-up reminder on my phone and decided it was time for Lukas and I to head to the store to get a test. I sat there anxiously waiting to see and about 2 minutes later my life changed forever, I was pregnant! Since we had been praying about having another baby for quite some time, I had already decided how I was going to let Patrick know he was to be a father again. The last time we had Chinese food, I secretly stashed away a fortune cookie in my car for just this occasion. I carefully opened the sealed cookie, removed the fortune and replaced it with one that said, "You are going to be a daddy again..." and sealed it with super glue. I then called Patrick and asked him if he could pick up some Chinese hot & sour soup. Since I was sick, he thought nothing of the request and brought home a large, steamy bowl. The only clinch in the scenario was that I was the only one who ended up eating Chinese that night so I had to do some quick thinking. I decided to give the new fortune cookie to Lukas and have him ask Patrick to open it for him. Boy, was he surprised to read that fortune...
Telling big brother... So we waited until the first trimester was over before we let the very eager big bro know about the news. Right after breakfast Patrick and I decided it was a good time to tell our big news. Patrick had Lukas sit down and then showed him a picture of the sonogram. He asked Lukas if he knew what it was and he replied, "That's me!" and Patrick said, "Nope, that's not you. That's your new baby brother or sister". About that time I handed him a special package that had customized t-shirt in it that was just for him.
It is amazing how much love you can have for something so small. When we first saw you although you were SO tiny we knew our lives would never be the same. Through you, lives will be changed, hearts will come to know Jesus and mountains will move...
Watching you grow for 9 months... It's such a miracle to see the changes that our bodies go through while a little life is growing inside...
The first time I felt you kick was both amazing and weird at the same time. I realized that I actually have a real human being growing inside of me. You had grown so much that your little legs and feet were strong enough to kick! WOW! I will never forget that first kick for the rest of my life.
Now, I wouldn't necessarily say that I have "craved" anything in particular this time around but I have discovered there are just somethings that taste SO much better when you are pregnant. Surprisingly, my absolute favorite thing to eat is fruit. In the beginning, I think it was just because I could keep it down. But it has been the one consistent thing I have loved to eat (particularly cherries, oh my, who knew those things could taste so good?) And of course, I still LOVE to eat sushi. Only now I have to be incredibly careful to make sure any rolls I eat are not raw or prepared around other raw sushi/sashimi.
We were so excited to tell everyone we were having a boy!
We were scheduled to find out whether our little one was a boy or girl on April 10th. We all had our predictions, but BOY were we surprised when we were told that our newest family member wasn't really very interested in letting us know what he/she was. The sonographer said, "well, I think he is a BOY"... But just to be sure, I went a couple days later on the 12th to check and see if we in fact had a Levi Jude or a Nyah Hope and SURPRISE we discovered Levi Jude would be joining us in about 5 more months.
We actually picked out Baby "P"'s name over a year ago when we were at the Judah Conference in Orlando, Florida. Since we had been wanting to have another addition to our family, the name question came up quite a bit that year. But on our way to the conference both Patrick and I agreed on the perfect name for our little boy. Levi Jude Porter Levi: from the tribe of Levi (worshiper) Jude: from the tribe of Judah (praise)
I had been dreaming of the perfect nursery for my little boy for months and I am so happy with the way it turned out. God has GREAT plans for him and I wanted the room to be a reflection of that purpose. Thanks to a little help from family (and a LOT of help from Patrick) everything turned out better than I had imagined. We decided to go with a heaven on earth theme, it is a mix of where our family is at this moment as well as where we came from and I think it will be a perfect fit for little Levi to grow into as he gets older. I can't wait to show Levi his new room!
Momma D, Shannon & Mom were so sweet to throw a baby shower for little Levi. The food, cake and decor were lovely and I had so much fun visiting with all of my favorite people who have been there for me throughout the whole pregnancy. I am very blessed to have such amazing people in my life.
My second shower was a surprise one. Given to me by my co-workers. Boy, did they get me! Complete with Rosa's pizza (my favorite) and a chocolate cake from Whole Foods. What more could a pregnant girl ask for?
We have been on this journey together for almost 9 months now and I can't believe I get to meet you in less than one month! It hasn't always been easy but I know you will be well worth it!
I have so many plans for us. Trips to the zoo, play dates with your friends, birthday parties, catching frogs, baking your favorite cookies, exploring life's wonders and watching you grow into the amazing man of God I know you will be.
Little Levi was ready to meet us on September 10, 2012. We arrived at the hospital at 5 am for our scheduled induction. Because I tested positive for Group B Strep (GBS) we wanted to be sure that I received two full rounds of the anti-biotic before our little man was born. Around 9 am they gave me an epidural (even though I wasn't in pain yet) and around 10 am the midwife, Melissa, came in and broke my water. I was in labor for a total of 3 hours and then finally baby Levi was born at 1:09 pm. It was amazing and a very emotional experience for both me and Patrick.
Levi was born on 09.10.12 at 1:09 pm. He weighed 8 lbs 10z and was 21 inches long. We are so blessed to have been given this tiny little baby and are so grateful for this precious gift. We will cherish every moment we have with him.
