6: HOPES & DREAMS | YOUR BIRTH STORY | Ryan was a bit stubborn. His due date was January 1st (yes, the same as mom's birthday). The day came and went without any appearance. so the doctor scheduled an inducement. Mom & Dad went to the hospital on a Thursday night to start the process. Mom started pitocin at 10 a.m. on Friday January 7th. The doctor broke mom's water at 2:35 p.m. There wasn't much change until 6:30 p.m. when all of a sudden it was time to push. A few hours later Ryan was born!
7: COMING HOME | Ryan was born on Friday and came home on Sunday from the hospital. It was a freezing cold day. Daddy was nice enough to go warm up the car and pick us up at the hospital doors. Both sets of grandparents came to visit as well as Great Grandpa & Grandma Holte.. Ryan did not want to sleep much the first few weeks. In fact, Mom and Dad took turns holding him in the chair and falling asleep with Ryan in their arms. We were scared to drop him but we couldn't keep our eyes open. Ryan was worth it!
8: OUR PERFECT MAN | CHOOSING YOUR NAME Ryan Michael Franke | Mommy decided to let Daddy have the final decision on how to name you. Your middle name was picked from the very beginning. Michael is your Grandpa Franke and since Daddy's middle name is his Grandpa's name we followed tradition. Daddy had a tougher time with your first name. It is a combination of your Great Grandpa's from Daddy's side of the family. -- Roy and Dan. 16: JANUARY | Ryan only wanted to sleep if someone held him for the first few weeks. | Daddy was concerned about Ryan's weight gain so he put him in an oil pan on the kitchen scale.
17: FEBRUARY | In February, Ryan did a lot of sleeping. His favorite places to nap were the swing and being held. The crib was Ryan's least favorite place to sleep. Mommy spent many nights on the couch while Ryan slept in his swing. This was the only way we could all rest! | During February, Ryan met his Great Grandpa Franke, Cousin Evan, Aunt Marcy, and Uncle Nate for the first time.
18: MARCH | Ryan attended his first parade on St. Patrick's Day. | Mommy had to go back to work March 28th. Before she went back, Daddy took her to Minneapolis. This meant Ryan got to spend a whole day with Grandpa & Grandma Franke.
19: In April, the Easter bunny paid a visit to Grandpa & Grandma Cannady's house. With the help of Daddy & Uncle Ben. Ryan and Cousin Stella found their Easter loot. Ryan also began sitting in the bumbo to play. He loved picking his toys up from the tray and throwing them on the ground. | APRIL
20: MAY | In May, Ryan's favorite thing was the Jumperoo. On May 8th, Mother's Day, Ryan was dedicated at church On May 28th, Ryan found his toes in his mouth and began sucking on them! He met his cousins Mason & Alyse during Memorial Day Weekend.
21: During June, Ryan and Mitch celebrated Father's Day. Ryan also began eating rice cereal. He wasn't sure about it at first but began to love it after just a few times. Ryan also figured out how to roll over. On top of all this, Ryan finally started sleeping without a swaddle. He would move so much in his sleep he couldn't sleep without it until June! | JUNE

23: In July, Ryan celebrated the 4th of July in Charles City with Daddy's family. Ryan also went to Stella's 1st birthday party. He tried his first food - green beans - on July 15th. He did not like them and spit most out. Ryan had spiky hair that no matter what we did would not stay down. | Daddy's friend Eric from growing up visited with his family and son Hunter.
24: SEPTEMBER | _____________________________________________________________
25: In September, Ryan took his first bathtub bath with his cousin Evan. After this, he only took baths in the big boy bathtub. September was also time for football. Ryan got to see Iowa State beat Iowa in their annual football game. He also started his journey as a Cheifs fan with his daddy.
26: OCTOBER & NOVEMBER | Ryan started crawling on October 1st. Grandma & Grandpa Cannady came to watch him while Mommy & Daddy went to a Chiefs game. The day before we left Ryan took off crawling.
27: October was full of Halloween fun for Ryan. He hosted a costume party for his friends and went to the Franke Harvest party.. He loved getting into Izzy's food whenever he could. In November, Ryan had his first Thanksgiving. After a lot of food he had to take a bath with Stella.
28: DECEMBER | _____________________________________________________________
29: December brought Ryan's first Christmas. We celebrated with both sets of Grandparents. Ryan got a wagon, toy cars, and some clothes. He loved snuggling with both Grandmas. We also headed to Indiana to visit Cousins Mason & Alyse. Ryan did great for the 6+ hour drive. He read, played, and napped. While there we visited the Children's Museum. Ryan LOVED climbing through all of the rooms. On the way back we stopped by the store of a popular show, American Pickers. | One day while Mommy was at class, Daddy went into the kitchen and came back to find Ryan snoozing in the middle of the floor. He sure was tired!
30: FIRST BIRTHDAY | Ryan hosted a party for his friends and family on January 7, 2012. He had cheese pizza and finished off lunch with his cake. He was only interested in the colored frosting.
31: When he turned one, Ryan's words were mama and dada. He loved to cruise around with his walking toys. He realized that walking with toys was much faster than crawling. Ryan also loved to open and close cabinets and drawers. Ryan had 6 teeth when he turned one -- four on top, two on the bottom.
32: At Ryan's first haircut he was offered his first candy sucker. He didn't want it though. He sat patiently in the chair until it was over. He was serious the whole time, wouldn't crack a smile! | Ryan loves to hang out with his grandparents. They came to his birthday party and spoiled him rotten.
