1: Mom's | Story | Brendan's pregnancy was a little complicated. When I was 7 months pregnant, I slipped on snow at the top of a half flight of stairs at our apartment building and fell down the stairs, landing on my knees and hands. I was put on bed rest for a week to ensure labor didn't start. After a week, I went back to work with no complications. Around 35 weeks, I started showing signs of preeclampsia. My blood pressure was shooting through the roof and I was having a constant low grade headache. Dr. Stoltz wanted to try to hold the pregnancy to 38 weeks if possible. I was put on permanent bed rest at this point and had to go to the doctor every three days to monitor my condition. We went to the doctor for a check-up when I was 36 weeks and 4 days. At this point, the doctor said it was time to get Brendan out as my body couldn't handle the pregnancy anymore. He did a quick ultrasound and found out that Brendan was in a complete frank breech position. This is where his bottom is presenting and his feet and head are up in my ribs. I was scheduled for a c-section the next day. The next morning we checked into the hospital around 10 am. Over the next 2 hours I was prepped for surgery. I was rolled into the delivery room right before noon. Brendan was delivered at 12:17 pm weighing in at 6 pounds even, an entire pound more than what was expected by doctors and nurses. Brendan spent the next 12 hours being monitored in the nursery because he was breathing faster than he should have been. The doctors had told me that if he didn't regulate his breathing in the next hour, he was going to intensive care. An hour later, the nurse came to my room, with Brendan, to tell me he must have listened to the doctor, because he started to regulate his breathing almost immediately after that conversation. He was cleared to stay in our room!
