FC: Our Story | Ed, Ray and Carmen
Dear Birthmother, Hi, we are Ed and Ray and our daughter, Carmen. Thank you for taking an opportunity to review our profile. We realize what a difficult decision you are facing, and we admire your courage. We love being Carmen's parents, and she has been home with us for a year and a half now. We very much want to adopt again, and provide Carmen with a baby sibling. Please be assured that if you choose us, your child will know that it was through your act of love that he or she came to our family as a much loved and cherished addition. Thank you again, Ed, Ray and Carmen
Ed and Ray's Story We first met around Christmas time 1995, and then again a full year later on New Year’s Eve 1996, and have been together ever since. We were drawn together based on our shared interests, value on family, life goals, faith, and the fact that we were both originally from northern New England. Our relationship has developed and deepened over the years and we have built a very close bond based on love, mutual respect, support, and friendship. We both place a special emphasis on family and faith and try to greet each day as a new adventure while appreciating both the small and great joys in life.
We met in Washington, DC, but grew up about an hour apart from each other. Ray is from Maine and Ed is from New Hampshire. This really makes it easy when we visit our families! | We had a civil union ceremony in Vermont in the spring of 2003 with friends and family who traveled from near and far to attend, and seven years later we returned to the same place to be married.
About Ed Ed is naturally outgoing and a “people person.” Ed’s father was in the Air Force so his family has lived in various places: New Hampshire; Connecticut; Long Island, New York; and Germany. As a result, Ed learned at a young age to make friends quickly and has stayed in touch over the years with many including some from childhood. With his personality, Ed easily took to working as a Human Resources Specialist for the Federal Government, with which he has been for many years. He very much enjoys the challenges of his position and the close interaction with his colleagues. Ed has every other Monday off, and also telecommutes from home a couple of days each month. This schedule gives him needed flexibility. Outside of work Ed enjoys dancing, singing, languages, and loves running through the grass with Carmen, laughing and cheering. He has also been active in our community and has enjoyed volunteering his time. He hopes to share his love of life and people with a second child.
About Ray Ray has a natural love for the ocean, lakes and lighthouses. Growing up in Maine, he was always close to all three and they continue to hold a special place in his soul. Also, since Maine has a large number of residents of French Canadian decent (including his own family), he has long had a strong interest in learning more about this – and other - cultures. As a result, he decided to study French in college, and spent his junior year living and studying in Quebec City, Canada. Ray has been fortunate enough to be able to maintain and cultivate this interest in different cultures through his job as a Deputy Language Services Administrator in the Federal Government. Like Ed, Ray has every other Monday off which allows us to take long weekends to pursue activities, take trips and spend more quality time together as a family. In addition to languages, Ray enjoys playing piano, dancing and singing with Carmen (especially “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” – her favorite!), all interests he would love to share with a new daughter or son.
Meeting Carmen | Adoption Day | Baptism (above), holidays, and other "firsts"! | Carmen is a joyful child! She is very playful and is constantly dancing, jumping up at the first notes of a song. She also enjoys play dates with friends, running around the house with our two dogs, and bringing her favorite books to her Dads for us to read together. She is very loving and caring, and always has a smile on her face. The sweetest little girl, she will make a wonderful big sister to your child. | Carmen
Parenting Philosophy | Our goal as parents is to love our children, encourage their hopes and dreams, and do our best to prepare them to lead happy and fulfilled lives. We will teach them to value and treat others kindly, embrace diversity, have faith in God, and confidence in themselves. We will stress the importance of experiencing joy on a daily basis, and living a meaningful life.
Our Families | Ed is the youngest of four children, while Ray is the oldest of four. Together we have 14 nieces and nephews. | Our families are very important to us. We are extremely close to them and visit them regularly in Maine, New Hampshire and New York. They also visit us here in D.C. Carmen's cousins all adore her and have embraced her lovingly and enthusiastically, as have her grandmothers, aunts and uncles.
Family gatherings are always fun-filled events!
