5: We were reading a book, and I asked you to show me the monkey. You kind of squirmed around, which is your way of telling me to put you down . I said something like, "oh, nevermind.." as you went running out of the room. Then I heard you say "ah ah ah" which your excellent interpretation of the sound a monkey makes, and you come back into your room holding a monkey puppet we had been playing with that morning. Then, during bedtime, we were reading the firetruck book and I asked you to show us the tree. You looked at the page and deliberately pointed right to it! | SNOW DAY = AWESOME DAY

40: Our trip to the pumpkin patch was awesome! The weather was perfect. We fed the goats and cows, even though you really wanted to eat the crackers that were for the animals. We even went on a hayride pulled by a tractor. We sat right behind the tractor. The farmer warned us that it might be loud, but you were like "that's exactly what I want!" We even fed the catfish at the pond.

44: Yes, this deserves its own page. It might not look like much, but it really caught Daddy and Mommy off-guard. Because, on this night, sweet Michael, you learned...HOW TO ESCAPE FROM YOUR CRIB. WITH the Mitchell shoes on. | You had to lean over the top of your crib rails with your forearms, lift your feet off of the mattress (your feet are kept together with a brace - like a snowboard or a plastic army man), and FLY out of your crib. Seven times. | So you pretty much told us that it was time for a BIG BOY BED! With a futon mattress on the floor, we made a bed for you that you are so excited about! We are so proud of you! | september 29, 2011 | who me? | monitor view of your bed | Big Boy Bed
45: Oh crib, how Mommy and Daddy will miss you. You are such a beautiful crib that kept our baby safe, contained and cozy. You took so much abuse from Michael's Mitchell shoes (see the crib railings below), yet you never complained. | bye bye crib!!
46: racketball | Daddy introduced you to racketball while waiting for Mommy to finish a swim class at the YMCA, and your head almost exploded, you were so excited. These pictures capture how you feel about racketball 1,000 times better than words ever could.
47: You also play basketball at the YMCA with Daddy. You really want to play in the pick-up game with the adults, but you're not quite big enough yet. But when they miss the basket, you are sure to yell "Ooooh!" | basketball | September 2011
48: Visiting with Cousins | October 2011
49: Happy Halloween | Halloween started with the Fall Festival at school. It was a blast! There were treats, a bouncy house, and everyone was dressed up! Trick-Or-Treating was so much fun! Ben was Lightning McQueen, Nicholas was a tree, and Michael was a monkey! You "got" trick-or-treating very quickly. "Treat" is one of your favorite words of the moment. | You were the perfect monkey. You kept your costume on, and went running through the streets, yelling "oooh oooh ah ah!" Mommy had to chase you everywhere! | When you would climb the stairs to the houses, your little tail was adorable. I was very proud of how well you said | comparing tattoos with Bumpa | "daint tu" (thank you") at every house. Nana was with us as well, and she had a very good time too. | Trick-or-Treat Trick-or-Treat Trick-or-Treat*

Aunt Jane made | Michael is TWO! Michael is TWO! | yummy Dorito salad, and we had cupcakes decorated like baseballs and basketballs. You LOVE the t-ball set and mo-mo (motorcycle). Uncle Don said we should have just given you cards and boxes, you enjoyed them so much! So many people came from so far away to celebrate your birthday - we are all so lucky to have such great family and friends.
55: school is awesome!
60: This past year has been a BLAST! We started out this year with you just starting to walk, and now you march, climb stairs, jump, and run very fast. At the beginning of the year, I counted each and every word you said. Now I could not count if I tried! You have always loved balls, but now you can shoot baskets, dribble the ball, pass the ball, hit baseballs, play racketball, and do a million other things with a ball. You love music, including “Itsy Bitsy Spider” (which you call “do do do”), “If Your Happy and You Know It,” “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” and “E-I-E-I-O.” You went from loving the ABC song, to singing the alphabet ALL BY YOURSELF, to pointing out all of the letters, to even starting to write the letters! You have learned how to count to 15. You learned all of the names of your friends at school and your teachers. Your favorite restaurants are Chick-Fil-A and iHop. You love to draw in the bathtub, and you have learned how to escape from your crib and now sleep in a big boy bed! You love to eat blueberries, really, any fruit, chili, cheese, and pretty much everything else on the planet. You are so active, and enjoy everything around you. You make me so proud and so happy to be your Mommy! | A Note from Mommy
61: May 25, 2011 The other day, Daddy went into the fridge and pulled out a cup with a cover on it. You ran over to him, eager to drink what was in the cup. You took a big, Michael-sized gulp, and shuddered and went “cha cha” (choking-kind of sound). Daddy quickly smelled the cup and realized it was cold coffee! (Mommy has been making her own frappacinos lately, and forgot to tell Daddy that was in the fridge). When Mommy came home, you totally had coffee breath! | September 17, 2011 You are so funny – tonight we went on a walk, and all of the sudden, you got down on your hands and knees in the grass. We were pretty confused, until Daddy realized that you were sniffing the grass like Josie! November 26, 2011 Today you sad your first sentence. Daddy: "Michael, please walk." Michael: "I run." | Some Stories from 2011
