38: February 9th 2008 This was the beginning of a very long-long labor which ended at 11:55 pm when our gorgeous Roc star came into the world weighing 8lbs 7oz and 21.25 inches long. Holli endured a 26 hour labor trying to have a natural birth. The doctors ended up recommending labor induction because her water had been broken for over 24 hours (this could cause an infection for the baby) and she wasn't dilating on her own. It was a long two night delivery. When the nurse came into the waiting room and told us he was here the joy was overwhelming. Kirk and I couldn't believe our eyes when we saw our first grandchild's precious little furry face. He reminded me of Nic, blonde and beautiful, and I was finally a Grandma, Rocco Miner Jensen's one and only Mamu. Holli and I would stay in our jamies for hours into the afternoon just holding him, feeding him, watching him, rocking him (either she had him or I had him) and by the time we got ready for the day it was almost gone. The last ten days of my stay we structured our routine to being ready by at least noon so we could go get our daily frozen yogurt and take the baby for a walk. Rocco hated to have his diaper or clothes changed and was not fond of the binkie. The weather was beautiful the whole time I was there. I can't begin to remember how many times Holli checked to make sure he was still breathing. This experience was a memory I will never forget and thank god I had Nic to escort me home and hold my hand. I cried with joy saying good bye to the most precious thing I have seen in a long-long time. Life does not get better for Mamu and Papa than the joys of finally becoming grandparents and watching our family grow. Oh boy - do we have big plans now!!
