BC: Tim & Rachel www.timandrachel.webs.com

Thank you for learning a little more about our lives. We want to thank you for this generous gift you are contemplating. Although we have not met, we do know that you are a person of tremendous courage and love. We realize you are making a difficult decision and we wish you peace and comfort in this process. We hope this book gives you a glimpse into our lives and into our hearts. We are so looking forward to bringing a child into our lives and we hope you will consider our family for your precious child. | Dear Expectant Parent... | Sincerely, Tim and Rachel

We’ve been married over five years now and together for about ten. We met when we worked at the same job and have pretty much been inseparable since. We are each other’s best friends and spend a lot of time laughing together. We have our own business that provides consulting services to non-profits, businesses and political campaigns. Rachel also works part time for a local non-profit, often from the house. | About us...

Our business is successful and allows us a lot of flexibility in our day-to-day life and, will easily allow us the necessary time to care for a child. We both like to work and enjoy being very involved in our community. We have worked on a number of issues in our area focused on improving parks, preserving the environment, expanding transit service, and ensuring there is adequate funding for education. We have a strong social justice ethic in our work and personal lives.

We have two cats and two dogs, all of whom get along great. The dogs love to go on walks to the park and lake that is just down the street from us and the cats’ favorite activity is to snuggle on movie night. All of the animals are gentle and love being around children! | Meet the Pets...

This is our home, which has been in the family for over 50 years. Rachel’s mother and aunts grew up in this house and we have spent the last few years working to fix it up and make it our own. We’ve got a huge yard with a vegetable garden, a rose bed originally planted by Rachel’s grandfather and a large backyard patio where we frequently barbeque with our friends and family. | Our | Home

In many ways, our house is the center of our lives... | Inside, we have four bedrooms, a movie room that Rachel built and a large kitchen, which is the focal point of our home. In many ways, our house is the center of our lives and we love to spend time together working on a house project or sitting on the deck overlooking our view. We also have two cats and two dogs, all of whom get along great. The dogs love to go on walks to the park and lake that is just down the street from us and the cats love nothing more than snuggling on a lap on movie night. All of the animals are gentle and absolutely love being around children! | Our Home

Tim is easily the most fun person I know. He makes me laugh every day and I love his optimism and look on life. I tease him that he has a “silver cloud” over him because I swear, he’s got the best luck of anyone I know. Tim loves to talk (he gets this from his mother) and one of his favorite hobbies is to sit in the kitchen and talk about world events, local politics and the next project around the house. He was a photography major in college and loves to take pictures while we’re out on one of our adventures. | All about Tim... according to Rachel

Tim's hobbies include playing golf and watching football with the guys, and current events, and working around the house. He’s a big car racing fan, his favorite video game is Rock Band (not vocals, thank goodness!) and he loves exploring the woods and the beach when we are out at our cabin. | He’s going to be a great father and he already talks about what kinds of activities he would like to share with a child including visiting local museums, teaching them how to drive go karts, playing in the yard and exploring the beach at our cabin.

Rachel is simply adorable. She’s smart and sensitive. She reads people very well and has a deep understanding of cultural and political issues. She is by far the most responsible person I know. If she says she’s going to do something, she does it. People trust her, respect her and like her. While she is a big reader, her favorite things are cooking and tending the garden. If it was up to Rachel, she’d spend her days doing those two things while raising a child. She looks forward to spending an afternoon in the kitchen, preparing a meal she’s never cooked before using vegetable fresh out of the garden and inviting a half dozen friends over for dinner. | All about Rachel... According to Tim

Rachel grew up in a large city and a neighborhood - and a family - that was very diverse. Rachel graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in African American Studies. Between her upbringing and her education, Rachel has a deep background of African American history and literature. One of the things I most admire about her is her willingness and interest in learning new things, meeting new people and jumping in to new experiences. | Oh, and Rachel is also fun, witty, charming and my best friend in the world.

Why we want to be parents...

We are so looking forward to the gifts that children will bring to our family! | We love children, and feel ready to become parents. We hope to teach our children to love everyone and to value nature, education, music and family. We hope to raise our child to appreciate everyone, to be empowered by the great diversity in our world, and to be a kind and curious person. We favor an open adoption and believe strongly that our children should have access to the full story of his or her life. Family for us is defined much broader than birth or marriage – should you choose to trust us with your child, we would hope that you too would be a part of our family and our future. We want to share our lives with children and it doesn’t look like that is going to happen the old fashioned way. There is nothing more fun then experiencing something with a child. Whether it is exploring a trail at our cabin, playing toys on the floor in the family room or quietly reading a book aloud, the gift that experiencing these events with a child is priceless.

Family, for us, is much broader than those we are related to by birth or marriage. We have a strong belief that you can pick your family, and have expanded our family to include many friends that we’ve been fortunate to meet over the years. Many of our friends have young children, and we’ve always got a huge bag full of toys ready for their arrival. The dogs love playing with the kids, and we love having them around. Our family is large and diverse and everyone is looking forward to a new addition! | Tim's parents... | Tim’s biological family is a little bigger, as he has two brothers, two nephews and a niece. His parents live on the other side of the state and we see them many times a year. They are doting grandparents who can’t wait to expand their family. We’re fortunate to see Rachel’s mother often – she’s over a lot helping with a project or joining us for dinner. While Rachel’s father passed away many years ago, he was a loving and important part of her life. | Our Friends and Family...

I am going to keep writing to see how much text I can fill on this page with size 14 font. This is where I can tell my child's birth parents about ourselves. How we met, how long we have been together, and how strong we are as a couple and how this will carry on into our parenting. I can get about two hundred words on these two pages so enough space to give a good picture of who we are as a couple and future parents. | Every Sunday we host a “family dinner,” where many of our friends gather for a multi-course feast prepared by Rachel, who has been known to spend hours cooking the meal. Sunday dinners are an important tradition in our family and a great way to keep up with everyone and remember what is most important in our busy lives. | Rachel's mother...

 Adventurious...

We love to have adventures with our friends and family!

We love to travel – whether it is overseas, off to our cabin on the ocean or across the county to go pumpkin picking. | We love to travel...

Our cabin is located just yards away from the ocean and offers a great place to hike, beach comb and explore the woods. And, we love to wake up on Saturday mornings and spontaneously coming up with an adventure for the day. In 2008 some of those adventures included a tour of local farms, a bike ride to a festival on an island, and a trip to the mountains to play in the snow. | In 2008, we went on a 2 week trip where started in Prague and ended in Turkey. What an amazing experience!

Thank you again for taking the time to learn about our family. We want you to know that, regardless of whether you chose us to be parents for your child, we wish you well and, most of all, we wish you peace. Tim & Rachel
