1: This Cookbook is dedicated to Grammie With Love Kim

2: Sweet and Sour Meatballs 1 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 tbsp mustard 3/4 cup vinegar 1 cup tomato ketchup 3/4 cup water 2 lbs hamburg 1 onion salt and pepper to taste Mix hamburg with chopped onion together and form into meatballs. Place in large casserole. Mix rest of ingredients together and pour over meatballs. Bake uncovered in 350 degree oven for 40 minutes. Baste occasionally when baked. Thicken with a little flour and water.

3: Hamburg and Bean Casserole | 2 strips of bacon, cut into pieces 2 1lb tins of pork and beans 1 chopped onion 1/2 cup molasses 1 lb hamburg, browned salt 1/2 tsp dry mustard Mix together and put in casserole. Bake at 375 degrees for 1/2 hour. Note: original recipe called for worchestershire sauce but Grammie never liked it in the casserole

4: Sweet Rolls | 1/3 cup sugar 1/4 shortening 1 egg 1 1/2 cup scalded milk 2 tsp salt Approximately 6 cups flour. 1 yeast cake (soaked) 1/4 cup water Method Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg. Then add milk. Let cool. Add salt and yeast. Then add flour, knead a little and let rise. Bake at 350F for 12 minutes

5: Brown Bread Pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 cup rolled oats and 3 tbsp shortening. Add: 2 cup warm water 1/2 cup molasses 2 tsp salt 1 yeast (dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water and 1/2 tsp sugar) Add flour to all to make stiff dough (about 5-6 cups). Put in deep pans to rise, not to high. Bake 1 hour. | Special Celebrations

6: 3 eggs, well beaten 1 1/2 cups white sugar, added to eggs and beaten 1/2 cup vegetable oil 4 tsp cream of tartar 2 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt 1 tsp ginger 1 tsp vanilla 1 tsp nutmeg 5 cups flour (or more) 1 cup milk Add oil to egg and sugar mixture. Then add milk and dry ingredients. Add vanilla. Chill 2 hours and knead before cutting. Fry in hot fat. | Doughnuts

7: Drop Cookies 1 1/3 cup shortening 2 cups brown sugar 3 eggs, well beaten 4 tbsp milk 3 cups flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp soda 1 tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla 1 1/2 to 2 cups nuts or dried fruit Sift dry ingredients. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually, add eggs and mix well. Add dry ingredients alternating with the liquid. Fold in fruits and nuts. Drop in small spoonfuls onto baking sheet, spacing them to allow for spreading.They will be more in uniform size if they do not touch while baking. Bake at 375F

8: Snickerdoodles 1 cup margarine 1 1/2 cup white sugar 2 eggs 2 3/4 cups flour 2 tsp cream of tartar 1 tsp soda 1/2 tsp salt Mix ingredients. Roll into balls, then in mixture of 2 tsp cinnamon and 2 tbsp white sugar. Flatten with fork. Bake in 350 degree oven.

9: Betty Ann Hermits 1 cup butter 1 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 eggs, beaten 1/2 cup raisins 1 1/2 cup dates 1/2 cup nuts 1/2 tsp soda in 2 tbsp boiling water 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 cups flour 1/2 tsp vanilla Bake in 350 degree oven. | And when he had given thanks he broke it and said. 10: Scratch Me Backs 2 cups flour 2 cups rolled oats 2 cups brown sugar 1 cup shortening 1 tsp soda 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt Mix altogether and rub into crumbs. Moisten with 2 well beaten eggs. Form into balls. Press flat with fork. Bake until golden brown. | Special treats...

11: There were always cookies at Grammie's when you came for a visit. | ....made by a special lady | Butterscotch Cookies 1 cup butter 2 cups light brown sugar 2 eggs, unbeaten 3 1/2 cups flour 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda vanilla Bake in 375 degree oven.

12: Marshmallow Squares 28 marshmallows 28 graham wafers 1 tin sweetened condensed milk coconut Cut marshmallows in quarters. Add crushed wafers and then milk. Butter dish and sprinkle with coconut. Press in mixture. Sprinkle more coconut on top. Refrigerate. Chopped nuts and cherries may be added.

14: Pumpkin Pie | 1/2 large or 1 small can of pumpkin 1/2 cup sugar 1tbsp flour 1/2 tsp salt, cinnamon, and ginger 2 eggs, slightly beaten 1 2/3 cup good milk Mix and pour into unbaked pie shell. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Bake 400F for 10 minutes then at 350F for 45 minutes or until knife comes out clean

15: One of Grammie's specialties and one of our favorites | Pie Pastry 5 1/2 cups flour 2 tsp salt 1 pound lard 1 tbsp vinegar 1 egg, slightly beaten water Combine flour and salt. Cut in lard until resembles coarse meal. Combine vinegar and egg, add water to make 1 cup. Gradually add in lard mixture, until makes dough cling together. Gather into ball, wrap and refrigerate or freeze until ready to use. Yields pastry for three 9 inch double crust pies

16: Grammie's Apple Cake Grease 9 X 9 pan. Slice 6 good sized apples on the bottom. Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon over apples. Then cover with the following: 3 eggs, beaten 1/2 cup oil 1 cup white sugar 1 cup flour 1 1/2 tsp baking powder Bake at 350F for 30 to 40 minutes. Can be served with ice cream or whipped cream.

17: Name | Gingerbread | 1/2 cup shortening 1 cup brown sugar 2 eggs, beaten 1/2 cup molasses 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger 1 tsp baking powder 2 cups flour 2/3 cup boiling water 1 tsp soda dissolved in the hot water Add beaten eggs last. Bake in 350F oven for 40 minutes. | Strength and honour are her clothing and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. 18: Crumb Cake 2 cups flour 3/4 cup butter 1 cup white sugar 1 tsp cinnamon Mix together into crumbs. Set aside 1 cup for topping. 1 egg 1 cup sour milk 1/2 tsp soda 2 tsp baking powder Mix with first ingredients. Pour into 8 or 9 inch pan, top with reserved crumb mixture. Bake in 375 degree oven.

19: Lazy Daisy Cake | Beat 2 eggs until thick. Add 1 cup sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla. Beat well. Sift together : 1 cup flour, 1 tsp baking powder Add 1 tsp, salt. Add to first mixture and beat well. Heat to boiling point 1/2 cup milk with 2 tbsp butter. Add all at once to combined mixture. Beat well until batter is very thick. Pour into 8 inch greased pan.

20: Hot Milk Cake | 3 eggs well beaten Add 1 1/2 cup sugar. Beat well. 2 cup sifted flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt Sift 3 times and add to egg mixture. Fold in 3/4 cup hot milk with melted butter, size of an egg. Bake in 9 inch pan in 350 degree oven for 1/2 hour.

22: Applesauce Cake 1 cup brown sugar 3/4 cup margarine 1 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce 1 cup raisins 1 lg container candied mixed minced fruit cherries 2 1/2 cups flour 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp nutmeg (allspice) 1/4 tsp salt Cream butter and sugar. Dissolve 2 tsp soda in applesauce. Add fruit to butter and sugar. Add flour sifted with salt and spices. Bake in 350 degree oven for 35-40 minutes. Nice in tube pan. This was also known as Grammie's "Christmas Cake"

23: Gumdrop Cake | 3 eggs (separated) 2 cups white sugar 1 cup warm milk 1 1/2 baking powder 1 lb gumdrops 1 tsp salt 1 cup butter 3 1/2 cups flour (1/2 cup over gumdrops) 1 cup raisins (or cherries) 1 tsp vanilla Lastly add egg whites. Bake in tube pan 1 - 1 1/2 hours in 350 degree oven

24: Divinity Fudge | 3 1/2 cups sugar 1/2 cup corn syrup 2/3 cup water 1/8 tsp salt 2 egg whites 1 1/2 cups sliced walnuts 1 tsp vanilla Cook sugar, syrup, water and salt to soft-ball test. Reserve 1/2 cup of the syrup and cook the remainder to hard ball test. Onto the stiffly whipped egg whites pour very gradually the first half cupful of syrup, beating constantly, then add the remainder of syrup. Add vanilla and nuts and continue beating until the mass thickens and becomes heavy. Pack on buttered tins and cut before its cold

25: It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God Matthew 4:4 | Fudge 2 cups brown sugar 2 cups white sugar 1 cup margarine 1 cup milk 1 cup cocoa Dash salt Bring to hard boil for 1 minute. Test in cold water - soft ball stage. Remove from stove and add 2 2/3 cups icing sugar. Beat until it looses its gloss.
