FC: Mom's Recipes
1: This cookbook is inspired by our mother, Nona. She cooked for so many with love put into every meal.
2: French toast, fried chicken and mashed potatoes on a Sunday night with 60minutes in the background and Dad laying on the sofa, Grandview Market cinnamon rolls warmed up with LOTS butter on them (I know she did not make them but it is most definitely a Mom food memory!) Homemade potato soup, milky green beans, malts with real malt in them! She also turned me on to new England clam chowder at at young age. Oh and let's not forget Younker's rarebit burgers....oh what sweet memories of going downtown shopping and having lunch at Younkers and stopping by the candy counter for chocolate malted milk balls! Oh how I love my dear mom and oh how I miss her daily! What a lady! | -Shawn
4: "The Famous Orange Julius" | 1 - 6 oz. can of frozen orange juice 1 cup of milk 1 cup of water 1/2 cup of sugar 1 teaspoon of vanilla 8-10 ice cubes Combine all the ingredients in blender, cover and blend until smooth. About 30 seconds. Serve immediately. Makes about 6 cups. | "Hey now, she showed me how to make ggg nog, that was the BOMB. AE egg nog, vanilla, cinnamon, a lil sugar, a spoon, mix, stir..... 9: I remember her Mickey Mousse pancakes. Mashed taters. And her always taking us to Granny's to get ice cream cones dipped in chocolate or strawberry. I also remember her always making Papa chocolate milk. One time when I was sick I stayed home with her and she couldn't get me to take my medicine so she called my mom and my mom said. "put it in her chocolate milk" she did this, but right in front of me, so of course I wouldn't drink it. Another time Tyler, Brayden and I were eating lunch and she told us we couldn't play until we "cleaned our plates" so Tyler dumped his whole plate on to the high chair top and started to lick his plate clean | -Breanna
10: The Spaw's and Murray's got together in the evening for dessert each Thanksgiving. My mom (Arlene) made pumpkin pie and Aunt Nona made her famous chocolate pie. I now wonder how many they had to make for our big families! Years later she gave me the recipe and I make it for Christmas each year. My recipe card is written just as she said it "beat the hell out of it for five minutes and always use Parkay." I loved talking to her on the phone and I miss her. She really wanted to hear what was new in your life and got excited about it with you. | -Denise Wicker
13: Its so neat to read and hear all these things about your mom, grandma, aunt, etc. One of the great things is, you were related to her. I didn't have that privilege, but it didnt matter, she still made me feel like I was family. She was my second mom growing up. And I KNOW, I am not the only non- relative that feels this way. She was an awesome lady and I am so grateful that I lived next to her.... And all of u for that matter. I know my mom misses her too! She lives on in all of our memories!!!
19: RibSauce | Use for 3 to 4 pounds of ribs 1 Lemon 1 Large onion 1 cup ketchup 1/3 cup worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon of chili powder 1 teaspoon salt 2 dashes of tabascco sauce 2 cups water 2 or 3 tablespoons of brown sugar Combine all ingredients an cook until it comes to a boil. Pour over ribs in oven, if it gets thick add water.
22: Nona's Ice Cream | 1 dozen eggs 1 lb. of powder sugar 1/2 cup of sugar 1 qt. of whip cream 3 pts. of half & half 1/2 bottle of vanilla Mix it all together & freeze | 9 eggs 2 1/2 cups sugar 3 teaspoons of vanilla Salt (Beat above) Add 2 pts. of half & half (mix) Pour in freezer and add Homo to 2/3 full
23: "I remember Nona's brownies......they are still to this day, the BEST!!! Nona gave my mom the recipe, and then as we grew out of the family home, I took over the recipe as did Rick. Also, her homemade ice cream is so fantastic.It is the only recipe I've ever used. Always, always.....such fond memories of Nona. | -Lynn Elliott Storms
