2: De | Traditional Christmas | The Jim Borgerding Family of Belgrade Minnesota traditional Christmas starts with breakfast. Mimi always started the day off with an awesome assortment of homemade foods. The jewel of the morning meal featured her delicious Cinnamon Rolls. Now there is nothing spectacular about cinnamon rolls, they have been around for centuries but to the German / Swedish tradition they are pivotal. My memory of Cinnamon Roll started at a tender age with Grandma Wanda Borgerding, who made them all year round. I remember going to visit her in June and Dad sitting down to a plate her rolls. Of course, Mom took them to a new gourmet level and now they are a favorite of the Christmas morning menu. The rest of the meal takes on a decidedly German personality with Keilbasa sausage, scrambled eggs topped with melted Cheddar Cheese, rounded out with a caloric plethora of a cream cheese brick doused in raspberry jam, plenty of orange juice, coffee and milk.
