FC: Cherished Recipes from 4th grade

1: This Cookbook is a tribute to all of the wonderful treats Mr. Howell has made for us over his many years at Grace Community Christian School, with a special thanks to Mrs. Kielmeyer for her part in creating so many yummy dishes for the 4th graders to enjoy!

2: Ronn Howell | Hobo Stew | Meatballs Potatoes - sliced Carrots - diced Onions - sliced Dry bouillon seasoning Place first 4 ingredients in aluminum foil, sprinkle seasoning lightly and seal foil well. Bake. 35-40 minutes at 400 degrees. | 400 F | 35 - 40 mins.

3: Every year we give thanks for our blessings. Having Mr. Howell at Grace Community Christian School is one of those blessings. He has organized a wonderful fourth grade holiday party every year full of activities centered around fantastic food. Hobo Stew is the centerpiece of a fabulous feast that everyone helps make and everyone loves to eat!

4: Mr. Howell | Marshmallow Crescents | 1 Tube Pillsbury Crescent Roll Dough Melted butter 1 T. Cinnamon & 1/4 cup Sugar mixture Marshmallows Glaze (1 cup powdered sugar, 1 Tbsp. milk, 1/4 tsp. vanilla) Spray muffin pan well with cooking spray. Separate crescent roll dough into triangles. Dip one marshmallow into melted butter and roll in cinnamon/sugar mixture. Place marshmallow in center of triangle and roll dough around marshmallow. Pinch dough closed well. | 375 degrees | 12-14 mins. | 8

6: Apple Pizza | Apple Pizza | 1. Crust: mix together and roll out 2 cups flour 1 tsp. salt 2/3 cup crisco shortening 7 Tablespoons water 2. 5 to 6 large apples (Rome or Granny Smith) peeled and pared. Slice and place on crust. 3. Sugar mixture: mix together and sprinkle on top of apples. 1/2 cup sugar 2 tsp. cinnamon 1/8 tsp. nutmeg 4. Topping mixture: mix together until crumbly. Sprinkle on top. 1 stick margarine 3/4 cup flour 1/2 cup sugar 5. Bake in 450 degree oven for about 20 minutes.

7: Mr. Howell | Pilgrim Hats | Keebler Fudge Stripe Cookies Bite size peanut butter cups Candy Corn White Frosting Turn Cookie upside down on wax paper with smooth chocolate facing up. Use a small amount of frosting in center to stick a peanut butter cup upside down. Break the orange part of the candy corn off and use as a buckle for the hat. Attach to peanut butter cup using a small amount of frosting.

8: Rudolph Pretzel Treats | Pretzels - regular and stick White Chocolate M&M's - plain and peanut Warm white chocolate slowly in the microwave, stir until melted and smooth. Place regular pretzels on waxed paper. Spoon white chocolate into pretzel holes. Place broken stick pretzels for the antlers, green plain M&M's for the eyes, and red peanut M&M's for the nose. Put in the refrigerator to cool and enjoy!

9: Sugar Ice Cream Cones White Frosting Red and Green Sprinkles Red and Green Candies (gumdrops and M&M's) Red and Green decorator frosting Cover sugar cones with white frosting and decorate with sprinkles, colored frosting, and candy. Use as trees for a Christmas village scene, using graham crackers and frosting to create buildings. | Christmas Tree Forest

11: CRUST: Use one roll of sugar cookie dough and pat into a jelly roll pan. Bake at the time and temperature given on package. Cool completely. FILLING: 1 8oz cream cheese 1/2 cup sugar 2 cups whipped topping Whip together and spread on top of cooled crust. TOPPING: Use your favorite fruit pie filling | Arizona Cake

12: LUNCH IN SEDONA | Mr. Howell treated us to a feast during our field trip to Sedona. With help from the parents, he served us hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, watermelon, and 2 kinds of delicious cake. Mmmmm

13: Vegetable Salad | Drain and place in bowl: 1 can French cut green beans 1 can of young peas (La Sour brand is good) Add: 4 stalks celery, diced 1 medium green pepper, diced 1 medium red onion, diced 1 small (2 oz.) jar diced pimientos Dressing: 3/4 Tablespoon salt 1 Tablespoon water 1 dash paprika 1/2 cup vinegar 1/4 cup vegetable oil 1/3 cup Wishbone Italian Dressing 1 cup sugar Mix dressing ingredients and bring to a rolling boil, then immediately pour over the vegetables. Marinate overnight in refrigerator, then drain in colander and put back in bowl to enjoy. | Mr. Howell used this recipe and added pasta to it for the salad everyone loved in Sedona.

14: Red Rock State Park | Gooey Butter Cake Bars | 1 yellow cake mix 1/2 cup butter (softened) 1 egg | 1 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese 1 box powdered sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla | -> mix with fork until slightly crumbly. Pat down into 9x13 pan | -> Beat 3 - 5 mins. with mixer. Then pour over cake mixture. Cook at 350 degrees for 40-50 mins.

15: Black Bottom Cake | 8 oz. Cream Cheese 1 egg 1/3 cup sugar 1/8 tsp. salt | -> Beat well and stir in large pkg. chocolate chips, set aside. | 1 1/2 cups sifted flour 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup cocoa 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vinegar 1 cup water 1/3 cup. salad oil 1 tsp. vanilla | -> Beat until combined, put in 9 x 13 pan. Drop cheese mixture on top of batter and spread around. Sprinkle with granulated sugar and walnuts, pressing nuts lightly into batter. | Bake at 350 degrees for 30 - 35 minutes.

16: Tropical Filling: 1/4 cup powdered sugar 3 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened 1/4 cup coconut 1 egg yolk 8 oz. can crushed pineapple, well drained Kolachy: 10 oz. can Hungry Jack Refrigerated Flaky Biscuits 1/3 cup sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 3 Tblsp. margarine or butter, melted Topping: 1/4 cup sliced almonds Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease large cookie sheet. In small bowl, blend powdered sugar and cream cheese until smooth. Stir in coconut, egg yolk and pineapple until well combined. Separate biscuits. In another small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon, mix well. Dip top and sides of biscuits in melted margarine, then in sugar mixture. Place rolls, sugared side up, 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. With thumb, make wide indentation in center of each roll; fill with heaping tablespoonful of filling. Sprinkle with sliced almonds. Bake at 375 degrees for 13 to 19 minutes or until golden brown. Pour a glaze of powdered sugar, milk and vanilla over the rolls. | TROPICAL BISCUIT KOLACHY | Mmm, best biscuits in the world!

17: 4 1/2 cups water 3 cups quick-cooking oats 2 eggs, lightly beaten 2 apples, peeled and chopped (about 1 cup) 1 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1/2 cup raisins 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon additional milk, optional | Overnight Baked Porridge | From our West Virginia Breakfast | In a saucepan, bring water to a boil; add oats. Return to a boil; cook 1 min. Remove from heat; cover and let stand for 5 mins. Combine eggs, apples, brown sugar, milk, oil, raisins, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Stir in oatmeal. Spoon into a greased 9 in. square baking pan. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 60 - 65 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Cut into squares; pour milk over each serving if desired. Makes 9 servings.

18: 3 eggs 1 cup butter 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup white sugar 1/4 lb. chocolate chips 1 1/2 tsp. Vanilla 1 1/2 cups peanut butter 2 tsp. baking soda 4 1/2 cups oatmeal 1/4 lb. M & M's | Mr. Howell | Monster Cookies | 350 degrees | Mix butter, sugars, vanilla, and beaten eggs. Add peanut butter and mix well. Add soda and rolled oats. Mix in chocolate chips and M & M's. Shape into balls and flatten on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 - 12 minutes. | Mr. Howell | Ice Cream Dessert | 24 (1 pkg.) crushed oreo cookies 1/4 cup melted margarine 1/2 gallon fudge marble ice cream 1 can milk chocolate frosting 1 8 oz. container cool whip | Mix crushed cookies and margarine and pat in bottom of 9 x 13 pan. Add layer of ice cream, then a layer of frosting, then a layer of cool whip. Freeze. | Easy and fun to make!

19: Mr. Howell | Sweet Chex Party Mix | 9 cups of your favorite Chex brand cereals 2 cups shredded coconut, optional 1 cup peanuts 1 cup packed light brown sugar 1 stick butter or margarine 1/2 cup corn syrup 1 tsp. vaniilla 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 - 2 cups M & M's 1 1/2 cups raisins, optional | 250 degrees | Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Combine cereal, coconut and peanuts in large shallow roasting pan. In 2 qt. saucepan over med. heat, heat brown sugar, butter and corn syrup to boiling, stirring. Then without stirring, boil 5 mins. Stir in vanilla and baking soda. Pour over cereal mixture; stir until pieces are evenly coated. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool completely, stirring frequently to break mixture apart. Mix in M&M's and raisins. Store in air-tight container. Makes about 16 cups. | Makes great Christmas gifts!
