Where am I From ...... | I am from Gel Pens, from Pilot G2 and Sharpie Pens. I am from the open field outside my home where we would play cricket. I am from the plant garden my mom created, to the busy buzzing bees near the tulips. I am from respecting elders and honesty, from Nadia and Firoz and the Merchants I am from a cultural taboo on drinking and smoking. From never running with scissors in my hand like a maniac, and always forced into doing my homework before anything else.
I am from a Muslim Religion, from praying three times a day, to going to Jamat Khana (Our version of a “Church”), to a ban on pork and pepperoni. I'm from the Aga Khan Hospital, from a childhood full of Chicken Tikka (Spicy !!) and Ras Malai (Sweet). I am from the little stores outside my home selling hot jalebi, from the spicy pani puri to even the sweet gulab jamun. I am from a loving family, a role model brother, an inspirational dad, and a loving mom. I am from spending money, from shopping weekly, from clothes. I am from shirts, to shoes, to socks, to shorts, to jeans, to ties, to hoodies, to even t-shirts. ~Aliisbah Merchant~
Language Arts | Reading, Writing, and Learning too There something for everyone, whether me or you Reading today and writing tomorrow.
This helps me show my creativity, from poetry, to word choice, to sometimes even pronunciation. Dreams will can be achieved, because in Language Arts, the sky is not the limit ! ~Aliisbah Merchant~
Sometimes I listen to others’ opinions, sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I think outside the box, sometimes I won’t. Depend on my brother, I might even need help on homework. It really just depends on my attitude that particular day. I’m not (the average) high school student, but a funny, friendly, and hard-working one. And I ain’t gonna fall under peer pressure, whether that means compromising friendship. | Self Respect
But I have learned that I am in charge of myself. I make my own decisions and actions. Because I have learned from the best; my family I’m not scared to stand up for what I believe in, whether others are with me or not. My worth is not determined by grades or my intelligence. No matter what others have to say, I will always be myself, because there is only one person that can do that job perfectly, and that is me. ~Aliisbah Merchant~
My Mother's Kitchen | My sister walks into the messiest room in our house, The place where all the funny smells come from, Only to be shocked in the presence of a mouse, Lying dead beside the chocolate chip cookie crumb She screamed so hard that neighbors called 911 Only to respond to no one She jumped onto the her mother’s favorite white chair And her mother gave her the death glare
Her mother wacked her with a green cabbage “I don’t want to hear any of your garbage Clean the kitchen now I want to see it spotless It has to look new, perfectly flawless” When she got to the oven, there was a surprise A hand full of dead mice She almost fainted again, “You should have seen her eyes” I hope you have learned your lesson, Stay out of my Kitchen” ! ~Aliisbah Merchant~
