2: Africa is the second largest continent. Which continent is bigger?

3: Africa is often called the plateau continent." The land is shaped like an upside-down pie plate. Much of the center is high, dry plateau.

4: The Sahara is the main physical feature in North Africa.

6: The Sahel region is in West Africa. The plains of the Sahel are mostly dry grassland.

7: The third longest river in Africa is the Niger River which runs through western Africa and the Sahel. It empties into a large lake called Lake Chad.

9: In Eastern Africa lies 3 large lakes; Lake Tanganyika, Lake Victoria, and Lake Malawi.

10: Lake Victoria is the second largest freshwater lake in the world.

12: Lake Tanganyika is the longest freshwater lake.

13: Lake Malawi is the world's ninth largest lake.

14: Mt. Kilimanjaro is located in East Africa. It is the highest mountain in Africa.

15: The Congo basin is a major physical feature of Central Africa with the Zambezi river flowing through this region.

16: The Zambezi River system has many waterfalls. A famous one is the beautiful Victoria Falls.

18: Two deserts, the Namib and Kalahari, make up much of the southern part of Africa.
