FC: By:Jordan R | ARE the accomplishments of the famous five still relevant today?
Introduction This Scrapbook will show you a little bit about the Famous Five and if the accomplishments of the Famous Five are still relevant today.
 Pink Teas
When women were campaigning to get the vote in the early 1900's women had secret meetings to talk about womens rights and freedoms. These meetings were developed so that women could get together and discuss various issues and politics.
Some women did not have the courage to go because of the strong opposition(Men). Women were usually forbidden by their husbands to go to these meetings...So as soon as men came to pick up or drop off their wives the women would set a tea party up and
as soon as they left they would slide the plates and tea cups away and out came the various issues. | The Famous five achieved another one of many goals and did that with pride.
Now today women can speak up more for what they want and almost get the same rights as men even though sometimes men get a higher salary. Women rights are a lot better than about 100 years ago.
How is the Dower law affecting today?
When women got married they had to give all of their belongings to their husbands.
Back in the 1900's when women got married their belongings became their husbands belongings. Some women got thrown out on to the street because the husband and wife got divorced and all of her belongings got taken away.
So finally Emily Murphy a strong hearted women who fought for the womens case in 1917 had had enough when one day she met a poor old lady who was penniless and homeless because her husband sold their farm and left without her and their children.
Emily set out to change this situation, and spent several years of study on her own. The Dower Act was finally passed in 1917 in the Alberta legislature. This established a wifes right to one-third of her husbands estate, but unfortunately,it took many years before authorities enforced its provision.
And also when women got married they had to quit their job because it was a womens job to take care of their home and children and the men go off to work. Now today married couples get a choice weather they want to sign papers that say as long as they are married they share their belongings and when they divorce they split them equally.Or you don't sign the papers and if you do divorce there is conflict. So today men and women have equal share in there belongings the men never get it all anymore.
How many women is there in the Canadian Government?
Women Appointees to senate-confirmed positions From 1977-2000 the total number of appointees was 6,331.The total number of women was 1,174.And the percentage of the proportion of women was 72.9%. Only 22 women have held cabinet or cabinet-level positions in the history of the United states. The following departments have never been headed by a women: Treasury,Defense,Interior,Agriculture,Energy,And veterans Affairs.
Conclusion So now you see that all of those accomplishments of the famous 5 are still relevant today. But you need to know that the famous 5 did a lot more things than what you saw so we need to keep looking into those ones to help women all over the world. Thanks.
