FC: Noel Parker | ARI Presentation Spring | By Stephanie Campbell

Cape Coral Charter School | Analytical Reading Inventory

 Some of the other students

Running Records Students | ARI Student | These are some of the amazing students that I had the pleasure of working with throughout this project :)

Background Information | Y is an only child who is being raised by her mother and her father. She repeated Kindergarten and is currently in second grade. She is a model student who struggles with reading and tested at a 1.4 on the FAIR assessment with 3 out of 3 in Comprehension. | & School | ARI Student

Classroom Observation | From my observations I noted that Y is actively engaged during lessons and interacts normally with other students. Her teacher uses whole group and small group reading approaches, and I noticed that Y struggles when called upon to read aloud.

Word Lists | The Crowded Car | Pat Hides Out | I conducted a Reading Interview

and assessed Y using Word lists and reading passages

Running Records Students | Grade Level Text

Running Record | Level Three | Expository Text | Above Grade Level Text

After analyzing the assessments of the ARI student my first thought was to work on building her phonics skills, but as I continued to work with herI decided that wide reading on her independent level and building her vocabulary skills would be more effective.

Using Onsets and Rimes to build Phonics Skills | Playing the game

Teach Y how to: 1. chose Just Right Books. 2. use a New Vocabulary Journal 3.build her Vocabulary through direct instruction | Short Range Plan

Recommendations: 1. Encourage Y to read more books on her independent reading level. 2. Provide additional direct instruction of new vocabulary words. | Long Range Plan

Taught | Individual Lesson One | How to Chose a Just Right Book & How to use a New Word Journal

Vocabulary Game & Original Story using New Words | Individual Lesson Two

Running Records Students | After analyzing the information I gathered from the Running Records, both students exhibited the same reading strengths and weaknesses. Both boys were able to read above their grade level, but their comprehension skills were a bit weak.

Taught boys to use KWL Charts before during and after reading | Taught boys how to participate in Mini Lit Circles | Center Activity One | Center Activity Two
