FC: Obama's Summer 2012
1: Monday June 18- Tuesday June 19 | Obama attended the G-20 Conference with other world leaders in Los Cabos, Mexico. The Conference included talks on the European Debt Crisis and the future of Syria. While attending, Obama also met with Russian leader Vladamir Putin and leaders from China to discuss foreign policy.
2: Wednesday June 20th
3: Barack Obama claims executive privilege over documents detailing the ATF’s flawed “Fast and Furious” gun tracing program. He refused to open the documents to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee led by Darrell Issa.
4: Friday June 22 | Barack Obama spoke to a crowd of Latino officeholders in Florida. He spoke about his recent immigration policy decision in which he is making pathway for educated undocumented immigrants who were brought to the US as children to gain citizenship. He also talked about his support of the DREAM Act, another proposed immigration reform and criticized Republicans for not doing more on the issue.
5: Thursday June 28 | Today the Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision, written by Chief Justice John Roberts who was joined by Justices Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan, found The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act constitutional under the tax power. PPACP, often referred to as Obamacare, is the signature legislation of the Obama administration. After the morning decision was read, Obama held a press conference in the East Room of the White House. During the speech he again pointed out the benefits and aspects of the Act to the American people and reinforced the importance of the mandate.
9: Wednesday July 4 | The President saluted and thanked US military heroes to open up the White House 4th of July Celebration. He also specifically thanked today’s military heroes by saying, “I want you all – our men and women in uniform, our veterans and their families -to know this: America will always remember. We will always be there for you, just as you’ve been there for us. That’s my promise. That is America’s promise. And that is one that we pledge to fulfill on this Independence Day.” The Obama’s celebrated the holiday by enjoying traditional grill fare (hotdogs, hamburgers etc.) and ending the evening fun with a concert by country singer Brad Paisley.
10: Thursday July 5 | The Obama administration filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization over China’s import duties on US Cars. This comes as a result of the US Trade Task Force Obama created earlier this year which learned that China has levied as much as a 21.5% tax on imported US vehicles. In a rally in Ohio, on the same day, the President promised "to hold China accountable for unfair trade practices that harm American auto makers."
11: Friday July 6 | Today Obama signed both the Student Loan Rate Extension and a Transportation bill into law. The transportation bill allows more federal funding toward construction on the nation’s infrastructure and should keep thousands of construction jobs active. The other bill kept the Student Loan Rate set earlier by his administration from doubling, providing loan relief to many college students and recent grads.
12: In an interview with CBS News Obama claimed his biggest mistake of the first term was putting policy over storytelling. By this he meant that while he is happy with his policy work he thinks he has done a poor job of convey what his administration has done to the average American. He feels that communication between a political leader and their constituents is key to success. He plans on trying to do more “storytelling” where he moves Americans toward unified goals and is clear in the future of US policy.

15: "I believe a lef of grass is no less than the journey work of the stars." | Walt Whitman | Barack attended the US Men’s Olympic basketball game as they played an exhibition game against Brazil at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. During an interview he ranked the 1992 US Dream Team above the current Olympic roster. He and Michelle were also shown on the Kiss Cam twice during the game and kissed the second time they were shown. He enjoyed watching his favorite sport and predicted success for the US team at the London Olympics.
16: Today Obama congratulated the Baylor Bears NCAA Women’s Basketball team on their NCAA Championship win earlier this year. The team visited the White House bringing along a ten year old fan who suffers from a rare disorder with whom they had been volunteering the past year. The women’s team as well as Haley Klepper all got to meet and greet Obama after a speech in which he called the undefeated team “dominant”.
