Dog Sledding | by Preston | Dog sledding has been used for many, and I mean many moons. Dog sledding started in the Arctic Region, they used horses for a while but then they used dogs because they could endure more harsh weather than horses. Also they've been used for thousands of years by many people. That's a little history about dog sledding. This is a little about how you sled. You use a sled (or wheeled sled if there's no snow), and you use a team of up to 24 dogs. You usually have them hitched to a tandem (which the driver's ride). That's a few things to know about how to sled. Here's a little about why we use dog sledding. They help deliver mail, supplies, and news. And sometimes they are used for patrolling the Canadian territories. Also a long time ago gold miners used them for transportation. That's a few reasons why we use them.
What are dog sleds used for today? They are used a lot for games which people play with them in. Also Canadians sometimes take dog sledding vacations with them. Last, tourists use them on winter vacations at snowy locations. And that's all about dog sledding. Hope you liked it.
Figure Skating | by Kira | The history of figure skating stretches back to the prehistoric times. When archaeological evidence of ice skating has been found. Figure skating came from ice skating. Ice skating divided itself into several separate sports since its prehistoric beginning, figure skating being one of them. In the early 1860s figure skating came from ballet music, ice skating, and dancing. Figure skating has been contested in the Olympic Games. It wasn't well received in the United States. Figure skating was introduced in the Olympics in 1908.
Snowboarding | by Christian | Snowboarding began many, many, many moons ago. A man named Sherman Poppen made the first snowboard in 1966, the snurfer. He made it for his daughter, he licensed it and sold half million. But Jake Burton build different versions of snurfers. Also Dimitrije Milovich got his idea of a snurfer by sliding down a hill on a cafeteria plate. That's some history of snowboarding. Here are some more young makers. Mr. Jack Burchett came up with the very first snowboard. Also Tom Sims build the first snowboard in 1977. He came up with it because he was addicted to skateboards. Those are some young makers. Present Day: The Olympic medalist Shaun White. White was born September 3, 1986. He had two cardiac surgeries before the age of 5. He skateboards after his brother Jesse. He started to snowboard at age 6. His mother was worried so she made him snowboard backwards which will help him more and more in his career. He won 8 medals including four-peat gold medal in half-pipe composition. That is some history about Shaun White and his snowboarding experience.
Hockey Players | by Zane | For my project I did hockey players. Here are the hockey players I did for my project: Ovechkin, Crosby, and Chara. Alexander Ovechkin is the captain of the Washington Capitals. He is a good hockey player and stick handler and he won the Hart Memorial trophy in 2009. Ovechkin is one of the best current hockey players. Sidney Crosby is the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Some people call him Sid the Kid. He was born August 7, 1997. He had two concussions in his career and played in the All-Star game. Crosby is a very good hockey player. Zdeno Chara is the captain of the Boston Bruins. He is the tallest in the NHL at 6'9". In 2002 he played for the Ottawa and the Bruins in July 1, 2006 he got traded to the Bruins. Chara is one of the best players on my favorite team. The End
