Table of Contents: 1. Where I'm From 2. My Mother's Kitchen 3. Mother to Daughter 4. Ode to GSMST 5. Language Arts Poem 6. Rhyme Scheme - Valentine 7. Free Verse - Smart

Where I'm From I’m from numbness Where ice is glued to the floor Where hands cannot be felt I’m from the north Where hearts are frozen Where warmth is loosely knit I’m from the cold Where white blankets always lay Where snow glitters from the sun I’m from the maelstrom of confusion Where bitter winds slice at victims Where people are trapped inside a snow globe I’m from the empty roads Where my only companions were salt and ice Where I chose to continue walking without looking back

My Mother's Kitchen She strolls into the kitchen Too confident Too smitten With herself She grabs a pot And a pan Heading for the nearest oven Turning it all the way up Making sure there is no green On the meat Cutting and slicing With precision Vegetables are tossed and turned Meat sizzles Rice pops Pots and pans clang together Every stand of her stays in place She is too confident Too smitten With herself Who knew the out come Could look so dead?

Mother To Daughter I can't help you swim to the surface You must do it on your own Love Learn to truly love yourself And to love those around you Then spread your arms and kick Smile It will change your mood It will change your attitude Then spread your arms and kick Listen Listen to what the world has to say Listen to what your heart has to say Then spread your arms and kick Faith Have faith in the Lord Love the Lord with all your heart Smile for the Lord Listen to what He is saying Have faith in the Lord Then spread your arms and kick I can't help you swim to the surface You must do it on your own

Ode to GSMST *an ode is a lyric poem typically of elaborate or irregular metrical form and expressive of exalted or enthusiastic emotion Oh little little book You can be held with one hand Fit into a book bag But how do you contain so much wisdom? Not big nor small Yet strong How oh how book bag Do you manage to carry so much burden? Oh pencil how do you move so swiftly? Gracefully and gently Leaving behind only a thin trace How I wonder The Laptop Keeps work Saving every so often Clicking softly under my fingers GSMST Stands tall Above all the others Reaching out to the eager Giving opportunity to those who care

Language Arts Poem There once was a verb that started bragging Then a noun came and crushed his pride saying I can be proper Now step over So the adjective that came and replaced them left both crying

Valentine: Rhyme Scheme February of 14 I was lonely on this day Guess Cupid never got my letter so yet I still pray Each and every day of my life hoping that she would stay But on this day I found out she went on her separate way Things I thought were wrong I found out it was true I messed up again thinking that it was just me and you Alone on this date and it was just like last year Same time, same rhyme, and baby you ain’t here! YO! Dear cupid where ever you may be, Please point your bow and arrow shoot one me I need to fall in love again, Someone that would not pretend, Someone more than just a friend Cupid, break me free! Time is running out I need one to be mine Cause 14th of February I'm going to need a valentine Apart from that I'm gone need someone to sign Sign my heart with love cause I'm running out of rhyme CHORUS ALBERT POSIS And even if, the sun refused to shine. And Even if romance ran out of rhyme. You would still have my heart until The end of time. You're all I need, my love, my Valentine. ALBERT POSIS Oh Cupid, please, would you just hear me now? I just need this girl back in my life Somehow. Cause it just don't feel right Without her presence by my side And I can’t, live without Her in my life. MARK MEJIA Cause I know that She's the one And even though It's said and done, She's the Girl I'll still pursue, And I Know this much is true! So Cupid, I pray. Please bring her back on this day. And this time, try to make her stay

CHORUS: (Shiny) Please! Listen! Just one time, I still need my one and only baby And lately I've been messed thinking about this lady Cupid being shady! I've been going crazy! Listen, it's my vision to complete this mission In transition, baby make me part of your decision And I'll promise everything that you’ve envisioned You plus me, no lie, no division I still pursue you till this day baby with great Precision Just please! Cupid, Shoot her a thousand arrows Struck her with all your might with each and every arrow Make her realize, please open up her eyes From all these stupid lies, from all these stupid guys I hope she sees the truth and I hope she does believe That through all of these songs I made That She still the one I need Too bad, it's too late, this message never got in time Cause 14 of February she ain’t even my Valentine CHORUS And Even if, the sun refused to shine. Even romance without a rhyme. You still have my heart till the end of time. Your all I need my love my valentine -Shiny

Smart: Free Verse My dad gave me one dollar bill 'Cause I'm his smartest son, And I swapped it for two shiny quarters 'Cause two is more than one! And then I took the quarters And traded them to Lou For three dimes -- I guess he don't know That three is more than two! Just then, along came old blind Bates And just 'cause he can't see He gave me four nickels for my three dimes, And four is more than three! And I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs Down at the seed-feed store, And the fool gave me five pennies for them, And five is more than four! And then I went and showed my dad, And he got red in the cheeks And closed his eyes and shook his head-- Too proud of me to speak! Shel Silverstein
