1: TABLE OF CONTENTS Large Servants

2: Large Landowners

3: They were educated in some cases, and had rich cultures. | Large landowners mostly lived on the southern colonies. They relied on indentured servants and/or enslaved African Americans for hard work/labor.

4: Farmers

5: Farmers worked the land according to the region. | Relied on family members for labor. They mostly live in the southern colonies.

6: Artisans

7: They mostly lived in the New England colonies. | Artisans worked as craftsmen in towns and on plantations. They usually lived in small villages and/or cities.

8: Women

9: Lived in all of the colonies. | Women worked as caretakers, house-workers, and home-makers. They were not allowed to vote, and had few opportunities for getting an education.

10: Indentured Servants

11: They lived mostly in the Mid-Atlantic, and Southern colonies. | Indentured servants were men and women, who did not have money for passage to the colonies. They also agreed to work without pay for the person who paid for their passage.

12: Slaves

13: Mostly lived in the Mid-Atlantic colonies. | They were captured in their Native Africa, and sold to slave traders. Then they were shipped to the colonies, where they were sold into slavery. slaves were owned as property of life without any rights. They were also often born into slavery. | Children of enslaved African Americans were born into slavery; and often sold apart from their parents.
