FC: The Death of Jousting | Sehaj R.
My name is Sir Luke Henry II, and I want to tell you how jousting was popular and how it declined. There were many reasons for the fall, but I will tell you the main three.
Wooden stands were made for the nobles to sit on. The stands were also decorated with colorful pennants. Some tents were made for the wealthy peasants. Everyone could attend a tournament, which included women and children.
Jousting was a sport in which people settled disputes in judicial combat. The winner would be considered that God was in his will. This was popular at the time.
Ist Reason of Decline | As technology grew, the musket was invented in the Late Middle Ages. The people liked the new technology, and the decline of jousting began.
2nd Reason of Decline | Plays and costumes were becoming more and more popular. William Shakespeare was influencing the people of the Middle Ages into a new work of entertainment. This was another reason for the decline.
#3rd Reason of Decline | More and more people drifted away from jousting and went to the new kinds of artillery. These three reasons showed how this medieval sport declined.
